From a news article about dealing with youth crime

... advocating for engine immobilisers that require a PIN number to be introduced so that stealing keys is futile without the four-digit PIN.

The state government has agreed to a trial involving 20,000 vehicles in the car theft hotspots ...

I guess some people put their keys in dumb locations like on a table in the corridor near the door or on the kitchen bench or some such cliche

What gets me is the thought of typing a pin everytime to start the vehicle

My first thought is from the movie "Gone In 60 Seconds." Has nothing to do with the fact that I may have watched it a few times this winter...not a thing. Laughing emoticon

"Now...these Mercedes, they use laser cut keys."
"I got it handled."
"What do you mean, handled?"
"I said I got it handled!"

That's how my physics teacher back in '68 described lasers.

To be fair, 1968 was still early days for lasers.

(My uncle was involved in developing some of the pioneering processes for growing pure crystals for use in lasers, probably not long after 1968).

That quote sounds similar to Bill Gates' alleged "640K ought to be enough for anybody." If you give a guy a shovel that doesn't mean he has to dig a hole.

When was the last time you used a laser?

Looks around lounge, sees two, wonders how many lasers carried this signal across the pacific.

Maybe if we went back to punishing thieves we would have less thieves.

I'm ADHD enough that at some point, no matter how many times I did it successfully, I would forget my stupid PIN. That would be embarrassing as hell.

This post screamed "I'm an asshole and I don't know how to keep my asshole opinions to myself!"

So I looked more closely at the account. Sure enough, it was the reincarnation of someone we had already banned, specifically for being an asshole who was clearly unable to keep their asshole opinions to themselves.

It's a funny thing about assholes — they never seem to learn that it's their own behavior that causes their lives to be miserable.

Needless to say, I banned them again. And I will continue to ban them as long as they keep re-registering, as I do not think the user has made a positive contribution to this site.
