I found a pic of SaFiS using seam sealant during a build. What is the actual product used? Did Piaggio use sealants in thier og builds?

Thanks all

I have found factory seam sealer on the inside of the tank area and in the fender well close to the shock mount.

I will be seam sealing my 200 as shown in the photo as the floor and tunnel are prone to rusting around these joints. I will probably do the joints in the wheel well too. The joint is taped so that only a small bead is used.

2k seam sealers are very good. There are even weld through seam sealers that can be applied between panels before they are spot welded together.

I will be using a 1k I have used before on my VW bus. It has held up for decades even in places like wheel wells. I usually apply it over a new coat of primer and prime over it right away.

This is true. Sealer was applied by the factory to the inside seams - under the tank and inside the rear wheel well.

I'm sure SaFiS had a reason for doing it they way he did. Maybe he can fill us in (heh heh).

There's an Italian Vespa guy on youtube who's showed using seam sealer like that on the outside of his bikes. I tried it similarly to SaFiS on my VBB, but didn't get great adhesion. I'll do it on the underside, but probably not the top side on my next bodywork project.

Before sealer goes on, bare metal or primer has to be scuffed with a certain grit. It can be applied to primer without scuffing if it is early in the recoat window.

I did mine after primer, but it may not have been inside the recoat window.

Anyone have a pic under the tank and in the rear wheel well?

(Say "rear wheel well" 3x fast)

I am trying to explain (via text) to an older vesperado who doesn't speak English as a first language. Would love to send him a pic to clarify , but can't seem to find one.

TIA

Awesome. PM me your email if you think a higher resolution version of that picture would be more useful.
