I thought I was getting a good deal on a 2006 Yamaha CX50 scooter that I recently purchased, but I should have looked closer. In 2006 Yamaha switched from an air cooled engine to a water cooled system. The bike runs great but was overheating, Took me awhile, but after a radiator flush I discovered the water hose going to the cylinder housing was leaking. Turns out the inlet port was broken and the hose had little to clamp down on. (see my pictures) Well at least I know what the problem is and I think it is somehow fixable. I need advise on what to do to make a connection. In talking it over with other motorcycle enthusiasts, here are the options that have been discussed;
1) after a good cleaning try using a machine tap to begin a thread that a bushing could attach to, then I have something that the hose would connect to?
2) take it to my welding shop, he may be able to weld a threaded nut over the prepared opening, that I could work with, to make the connection?
3) some sort of interior tube that expands to form a seal and still allows me to make a connection?
Has anyone been successful with this type of problem?
Also, the broken inlet does not appear to be part of the cylinder housing, more of an insert that was pressure fitted.
I think next time when I buy a used scooter, I'll ask for a week to try it out.
Thanks all. Hope to start a discussion.

I'd be looking at finding some pipe (copper?) to fit snugly into that hole, and some more pipe that would go over the first one and be snug in the hose. Then some JBweld would fix it all in place.

I'd drain the fluids, remove the exhaust and lay it on it's side. Can you get any of the sheared fitting out from the block? Take that hose your showing into home depot, and find a brass or pex fitting that will fit snugley into it. Buy various options, return what you don't use. You're not looking at a whole lot of heat or stress on that fitting. As Jim said JB Weld should hold it fine. That's a Vino Classic? I like those.

Thanks Jim and Abner. I'm going into the garage to set it up, clean the location, then search for a copper fitting.
Ab, it looks like a Vino Classic, I have one of those, a 2001. It's a real work horse. That's why I did not hesitate buying the Vino XC50 for $700, I did not realize Yamaha changed the engine to a 4 stroke and water cooled system to replace the Vino Classic starting in 2006. When I get it fixed I'm confident I'll have a strong bike. Thank you.

Update on my inlet hose fix. I went to Home Depot and found that a 1/4" brass pipe nipple was a good fit. I was hoping I could thread it directly into the cleaned out port but it would not turn. This morning I purchased a !/4" pipe tap that allowed me to cut threads into the opening. The nipple threaded in nicely so applying J-B Weld epoxy, as much as I resonably could, I got the hosing secured coming and going. I got lucky that the pipe nipple was a good fit into the hosing. Now I wait 24 hours for the JB to cure. Tomorrow I will upright the scooter and fill with water/coolant. If I have no drips I should be road ready. Wish me luck!
