Seems like the warranty and service booklet is from the local dealer, the previous Owner tok it to service every 1000km/ 620mile, not bad!

Any recommendations of treating the surface rust inside the front fender? Normally I would grind carefully and use epoxy paint. But happy to hear other recommendations.
Due to the originality Im trying to work very careful with this one👍

Wow, that front end is in amazing shape!
As for the surface rust - I'd lightly brush it with Ospho, then wipe that down. After that, maybe some 0000 steel wool or 2000 grit wet sandpaper, and gently wet sand it. Rubbing compound Polish Wax Then at least it'll be protected. And I love the picture of your son with his scooter. That's awesome... |

Holy cow that is clean!
Ospho is also my go to for rust remediation. Easy to use and works very very well. |

Ospho or CLR.
Ospho will leave the metal dark but is better when large chips are present. CLR is better for removing rust stains that show through the paint, but the paint is still mostly intact. |

If you want the rust completely gone and zero "dark metal", use Opsho as a "metal prep". Brush on a coat of Opsho and let it sit for about 10~15 minutes (but don't it dry! If that means brushing more on, then by all means brush more on). After that 10~15 minutes, start scrubbing with a new red scotchbright pad. Brush some more Opsho on and let it sit for another 10~15 minutes, then scrub it some more. If the metal is deeply pitted with rust, use a soft brass bristled brush. The point of scrubbing with the Opsho is to remove 100% of the rust...not just coat the outer layer of the rust with the stuff. When you're done scrubbing, all the rusty metal should be shiny bright (it might take 3~5 scrubbings). Immediately rinse off all the Opsho and dry the metal completely. Then use your favorite primer and paint to cover up the bare metal.
And i'd highly recommend to remove the mudguard when doing all of that. It will keep Opsho from dribbling down your arms. Plus you will also get the opportunity to remove any rust where the mudguard bolts to the fork. |

You can also use naval jelly. Same kind of thing as Ospho except gooey, so it doesn't evaporate as fast and sticks to vertical surfaces. I use both quite often. Scrubbing with a wire brush works well and you can get all the rust out with enough applications. I use it for places I can't sandblast.

That looks great. Probably car wax is all that's needed. That's a beautiful GS. Avoid any urges to "restore" it.

Sorry slow updates, been quite occupied with work, but managed to squeeze in some time in between to continue with my 160GS project😊 Took out the engine for cleaning and overhaling as it has been stored for quite some time, and continued cleaning the frame, looks good Im my opinion, just washed down with hot water and car shampoo. Will add photos as I move on👍
