When the owner dies, a lot of that stuff is gonna end up as scrap unfortunately.
No one is going to take the time to catalog all of that. |

That is not a "collection", that is a "pile". Might be more properly termed a junk pile. Probably a good place to go on a scavenger hunt, however.

Vintage, low miles. Ran when parked. Great deal for someone not afraid of a little wrenching....

A guy in Rye, AZ had a lot, a big lot, filled with motorcycles, scooters, bicycles, and all sorts of parts. People would stop, and look, but the guy wouldn't sell anything. It was all in the open, a lot of it rusting away. A few years ago there was a fire, and it's all gone now. What a waste.

Things like this motorcycle junkyard/salvage yard/collection go from wow to scrap metal after a few good years. We have a junkyard near Lightfoot VA that has a bunch of vintage cars, like the newest car is from the early 70's. At this point nothing is really salvageable. Tress, large ones, growing thru the middle of cars. Body panels rusted to dust. The local neighborhood, one of those pop-up McMansion 'hoods that pop-up in the middle of a rural area so you can live in the country, are trying to get rid of the junkyard.
When the owner of this majestic motorcycle hoard passes on it will all go to the scrap metal man by the truck load. Hoarders are the worst. That was a cool video though. Thanks for posting it kz! |

I've lived in AZ all my life, and in the Phoenix valley area, specifically Chandler, since 1977. I ridden and driven on Hwy 87 through Rye toward Payson thousands of times. I used to stop and look at that junkyard once in a while. I never met the owner. I heard he was a bit weird. That place had been there since at least the early 70s. He also had quite a few old rusty cars and trucks, mostly from the '50s. I remember a 1960s BSA chopper with the gas tank painted like a British flag right up against the front fence. I wanted that thing. It rains and snows a lot up there, so pretty much everything was badly rusted.
One of my favorite rides is Mesa to Payson, east to Show Low, then south through the Salt River Canyon, back down into Globe/Miami, Superior, Florence Junction, and back to Chandler. Aside from my Genuine Stella, which has a manual transmission with a super low first gear, my Vespa GT200 is the only scooter I've ever had that could make that trip. Nothing else with a CVT would climb the hills. |
