Modern Vespa

I just changed the brake fluid in my SO's LX150. I thought I last changed it about 2 years ago. But, looking at my records it was way more than that and was pretty dark. Glad I did.

Nothing.

today's plan is to check oil and then wash it in preparation for a road trip starting tomorrow

Checked the oil, group ride tomorrow Cyclone Gabrielle allowing.

Watching her collect dust as we've been super busy with unforeseeable life crap. Most of it costs the kind of money it would take to purchase a few new Vespas without getting anything enjoyable in return.

Ugh, this doesn't sound fun. Reminded me of when my basement flooded, twice, in the same winter. Naturally the second time was right after we completed repairs fixing the damage the first flood did lmao fml...

Decided to "sportify" my white GTS, just for a change. Removed the topbox and carrier, fitted the floor mat and installed the Akra exhaust. Gives the scooter a very different image.

Now I've got to wash it (and the other Vespa and the car!)

A lot of mixed reviews on the floormats. Proceed with caution.

Thanks, Adri, but I've been around here for decades (I'm member 76, I think). I bought this floor mat for my GT200 about 20 years ago, but don't use it often. Always make sure the floorboards and mat are clean before fitting it. A few scratches and scuff marks don't bother me.

I went to the Dragon Rally on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales on mine and camped overnight dry in the day rather cold overnight.
It was a nice to get there and back with no rain in a 300 mile trip. Must be a first for Wale's.😊
Lots of folk from Norway, Belgium, France and Holland there too.
The bike with the exposed valve gear had Rough Superior on the side of the tank and not Brough and when it left sounded so smooth and sewing machine like.

My Vespa GTS300 Super is sleeping in my garage on a battery tender.
I do smile when I go buy it to get in the car and drive to work.

Trashed my EVAP - got tired of stalling in traffic

While I was installing another battery for the clock today, (that's in another thread) I decided to finally straighten out the handlebars of my LX150 while I had the cowls off.

They were just a little bit cocked to the right when you were going straight. I had to loosen the handlebar mount, realign and the tighten again. Little stuff like that drive me crazy, just like the rearview mirror in my car not being level.

Dropped Gabriella off at the dealer for her 20000km service. They are also going to fit my Akrapovic exhaust and get a WOF (NZ MOT check). Normally a drop off in the morning/pick up in the afternoon, the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle on people means one of the techs is currently getting a generator to keep his home running so she may not be ready today. Too bad, people's lives are more important than getting the scooter back today.

I just finished changing the gear oil on the LX150. It's only been about 1k miles since the last time, but it was many years ago. This Vespa has not seen much action in the past few years. I have kept up with the yearly oil changes though.

Hopefully, it will get some more miles on it now since I sold my last motorcycle.

Well, yesterday. After reinstalling the clutch, I'd put off installing the side skirts and crash bars, which I did despite cold fingers. The annoying sound had disappeared before this, can't wait to see what happens next.

Looks like it could use a wash as soon as it warms up....worst is my cat has enjoyed the seat more than I have. He could at least wash his feet first.

Starting the rebuild on an ET2 for my wife.

My Vespa dealer advises to change oil annually if you are
not riding that scoot in your stable. I think that also applies
to motorcycles.

Thanks Bob. I have always changed the engine oil annually if not sooner.

It's the hub gear oil that I changed this time. The OM maintenance schedule shows much more time between changes.

Aside from a few cold spells and one ice storm, we are having a crazy warm winter here. I've been able to ride at least once a week, if not more.

Tomorrow is supposed to be 85 degrees! I will be out there.

Intentionally ran my 2021 HPE out of gas to see how far I'd get after the low fuel light came on and after the gauge said empty. (Rotopax on board)

That's a good way to destroy your fuel pump.

I did absolutely nothing except smile at my GTS300 Super sleeping
in my garage.

21" of snow coming in Thursday here in Frostbite Falls. People
are draining the Grocery shelves preparing to hunker down for
the blizzard.

Good news. the Metro Twin Cities has over 200 heavy truck snow
plows. This does not include the plow fleet in every adjoining
suburb. So, we can move a lot of heavy snow.

OK, I'll bite. How much further did it go?

From the time the low fuel warning light illuminated it went another 33 miles (around town with several stops) - from when fuel gauge showed empty another 17.5.

My best guess is light comes on with half gallon remaining… gauge shows empty with 1/4 gallon remaining.

Replaced the batteries in both the wife's and my own scooters – getting ready for some riding.

similar to what I find with my Supertech:

* manual says 8.5L +/- 0.5L.
* the gauge represents approx 7.5L.
* the gauge uses approx 1L segments.
* when down to one segment / 1L it goes red. Sounds like the fuel warning light for you.
* after the gauge reaches no segments / 0L there is still 1L left 'below' the gauge.
* I can also squeeze a 0.1-0.2L 'above' the top of the gauge so a small bit more than 8.5L total


note: 1/4 US gallons = 0.95L

Bled spongy rear brake fluid, then a short 5 mile test. a ok . Tomorrow will bleed front brake and maybe ride back of the dragon. Possibly 75 F-80+ by Thursday then back to late winter again.

That looks ever so slightly suspicious.

I own 10 now. Space is a premium tho.
His are all running and nice. I am kinda on the junkyard side at the moment. Can't pass up a good deal on the scooters I love.

Drained the fuel tank.
Charged the battery.
Cleaned spark plug.
Put few spoons of 2T oil into the cylinder and turned the engine over manually times to lube up the cylinder.

Should be a go-er in April.

A tour of the Maritime Alps perhaps? Hmm - most likely shopping trips lol.
