Are you absolutely certain the PCX you test drove was a 2022 model? On level ground into a light wind, at WOT, my PCX will hit 60 - 65 mph, especially with the stock windshield installed. And I'm a big guy at 6'2" and 225 pounds. Consider this: a 2022 Liberty makes 12.9 horsepower and weighs 255 pounds (0.0506 horsepower per pound), while a 2022 PCX 150 makes 15.8 horsepower and weighs 286 pounds (0.0552 horsepower per pound). So my assumption is that the PCX is going to be faster at WOT... Is that correct?

Also, the suspension on my 2022 is almost as good as the suspension on the 2018 GTS 300 that it replaced (in terms of absorbing impact).

I would definitely check to make sure you didn't test drive a leftover 2020 with the old engine. If the 2022 PCX is too slow for you, then it is unlikely the 150cc class is going to meet your needs. Maybe try a Burgman 200?
Nah, definitely a '22. Conveniently, the dealership had already started the paperwork for the sale, and it was listed as a 2022.

Interestingly enough, Dallas CL has a Black 2018 GTS300 for sale. Chrome rear protector, mid-height OEM windshield, chrome folding rear rack, tan seat, Stebel horn, 2200 ish miles, recent battery and fluid changes, for $4900. I offered $4500 and the owner said I was second in line, but that $4500 would be acceptable if the other buyer fell through. Figured I could ride it for a while and then resell it for most of that when I decide to quit for good. So, waiting for word.

That sounds like a really good deal. The GTS 300 will offer an improved riding experience over the PCX. I miss riding mine. I don't miss fixing it, though. Good luck.

Well, the GTS was purchased by the one guy in front of me. So, after a lot of overthinking and rationalization, I decided to buy a used 2022 Liberty 150S with the sport windscreen and top box, with 2800 miles and a warranty, for $3300 OTD, TT&L, from Plano Kawasaki-Suzuki-Genuine-Vespa-Piaggio-etc. That's basically $1300 less than the new OTD price (not paying freight or setup), not counting the accessories. I pick it up on Tuesday via U-Haul rental trailer. Here's a photo of the actual bike. Huzzah!

Nice... There's nothing like a good deal on a low mileage pre-owned scooter. Congratulations and enjoy!

I think you will be happy with the Liberty. The only one that was mentioned that I absolutely recommend against is the PCX. It is a maintenance nightmare. You have to practically take the whole scooter apart to get to the valves. It also has a high stepover, which might be an issue if you are retired. I am retired, and have bad knees and hip joints. I have only owned scooters with flat or almost flat floors. I put a rack over the battery cover on my GT200, then wound up taking it off, because I almost dropped the scooter a couple of times when my foot got caught on it.

Not by choice. If they're like most workers, when they get off work and head home, it's likely going to be on a Honda.

My PCX service nightmare confirmed... I think I'm going to let the Honda dealer service my PCX. In terms of the stepover, it is rather high, especially compared to the GTS300. I'm looking forward to retirement, but apparently it brings all sorts of health problems along with it.

Congrats. I was following this thread as I've been trying to make the decision on a 150 also. The biggest drawback for me is the small tank on the Liberty.
The step through is great. The "I'm happy" phrase with Liberty owners, even with cons, has been one of the biggest pluses for me. Looks like I'm down for a Liberty too.

That Liberty is a beauty!

I picked up my 'retirement scooter' last October, 2020 GTS 300HPE Touring with 350 miles for $6800. Prior to that I put about 16,000 miles on a 2010 GTS 300 Super. At 79, I still do all my own service work (I can't let 60 years worth of tools go to waste!) I also own a 2020 Spyder F3 Limited but the Vespa is my go to ride. Enjoy the heck out of retirement (even with all the associated aches and pains....)

I think you are going to like the ride of the Liberty. Once you have a scoot with larger wheels, it's hard to go back to the small ones. You still have to avoid ruts in the road, but I think the overall ride is better. Downside is resale. The Vespa name carries some weigh, Piaggio not as much. Just like it's easier to sell a Honda versus other brands. Buying second hand is definitely the way to go to avoid the big hit on all the shipping/setup/dealership charges. There is a 2018 Liberty up for sale locally on FB with 785 miles on it for $3500 for over 2 months. You got a better deal.

Nice deal on the white Liberty! And the matching trunk and sport screen, even better deal! Only mod you should consider is AF1 rollers. Improve acceleration and mid-range roll-on.

No it's not. I've had all kinds of problems with used Honda. Maybe you've been lucky, but not everyone.

McRuss,

Good on you still scooting at 79 years old. You are 5 years older
than I am. I hope to have 5 more years like your good example.

I do admit to feeling the age - especially in this last year.

Ride on McRuss - remember, rubber side down.

A few extras came with the scooter besides the windscreen and top trunk, as you can see--a Malossi Multivar kit, 3 sets of rollers (9, 12, 13.5 gm), various tools, two oil filters, a tire plug kit, an o-ring, and a Battery Tender pigtail. Also included were the Owner's manual, the Extended Warranty manual (two year extra contract-although if the variator's been swapped, that may be moot), and Master/daily use keys.

I need to take a look at the variator/clutch installation and check the torques for my own peace of mind. The OEM variator's spline teeth were pretty worn, which is worrisome for 2800 miles. Also, the tires were both at 42psi despite the dealer pre-delivery inspection.

The bike accelerates briskly, decelerates strongly, and doesn't coast until it drops below 5 mph. I'm assuming a stronger spring is in the clutch assembly, from the kit, since the OEM spring and variator were in the Multivar clamshell.
