Hi I've just recently purchased a lml star deluxe 2t which already had fuel in it, its on a 15 plate I was just wondering which unleaded is recommended to use the older E5 or the newer E10?

I've heard all the horror stories about the new fuel for cars etc.... Due to the ethenol content is this the same for the scooters? Or is it best to use an additive? So just really after some advice before I fill her up cheers. ๐Ÿ‘

A 15 plate (registered between February and September in 2015) should be fine with E10.

Better stay to E5 if you can still get it. Regardless the registration year, it's a "caveman era" engine, not designed for ethanol mixed fuel. Original crank seals aren't ethanol resistant, unless replaced with modern FKM / Viton ones...

To be fair mate I've a modern car that says e10 is fine to use but I still use the E5 in that don't trust this new fuel and all the horror stories I keep hearing so I think I'll do same with scooter.
Cheers for help and advice on the crank seals ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

This is what E10 did to an older gts engine, the ones they claim can use it use the same metal parts as the new ones the rubber seals are just e10 proof. so the same wear and tear on both engines will occur, stick with Esso E5 it has no ethanol in it despite the E5 sign at the pump.
please stop spreading this misinformation. poor quality fuel did not cause that damage, lack of lubrication did.

I agree. With all that crap and rust in the coolant system there was definitely something wrongโ€ฆ

No lack of lubrication at all, the oil level was fine as was the rocker plenty of oil up there when i took it off, so that put that theory to bed, The water system was a tad on the rusty side, but no sludge in it,

So what you're saying is, basically, you were trying to convince us ignorant folks about the woes experienced by many, if not most, users of E10 fuel. And, since you're super knowledgeable and friendly-like, you did so because you "love" us. Gosh, thanks.

Being entitled to my opinion and all, I'm thinking nah, I'm not losing anything here. Gonna get back to my, um Yawn emoticon

FYI, not everybody here is a DIY mechanic...

everybody is entitled to their opinion. however, positing your opinion as fact is quite misleading at best.

go peddle your BS claims back in your other misinformation thread.

But this is absolutely true:
"There is growing speculation about whether opting for E10 over E5 might cause increased damage to cars in the winter months, according to an expert."

Not sure if it was an engine expert or conspiracy expert.

I am the exception and one of the few DIY mechanics here. However I have the humility and I'm sensible enough to admit when I'm wrong. I don't like your attitude.

Reminds me of when I bought my prior home. There were some legal issues, and my agent said the seller's agent wanted to be clear that the seller was a lawyer. My immediate reaction was "pff, I'm an engineer, but I don't know how to drive a train". What sort of lawyer? Patent, civil, criminal, environmental, ??? Turned out, when seller's agent says he "WAS" a lawyer, that is exactly what was meant; the individual had been dis-barred.

Sorry, where were we?

So what's next? Can we expect threads on how 5G networks are ruining our engines and how one can make a tinfoil hat for the Vespa to prevent just that?!

Tinfoil?
TINFOIL?

Why do you think I paid all that extra to have a metal bodied scooter?
