Modern Vespa

I have mentioned before on here that I am contemplating getting a new Vespa to replace our 2011 LX 150 ie. I don't have a good reason to do this except I just like newer things.

The LX is running fine and I've just changed out all the things that may have been neglected over the years. It was my SO's and she just never rode it that much. It only has 1,750 miles.

I have now taken it over. I understand the newer ones have 12" wheels, ABS, different engine and a few other upgrades.

My question to anyone who has had the LX and is now riding the newer Primavera 150 is will I notice a big difference in the two Vespas?

A better choice of replacement tires. More ground clearance if you live where there are lots of speed bumps. Otherwise the same.

Different engine? I don't think so. Both 150cc 3-valve.

This being said the decision will probably be an emotional one.

Thanks for the input. My 2011 LX 150 ie has the 2 valve Leader engine. I'm not sure how much difference that is from the 3 valve newer one. That is what I'm trying to find out and hoping someone who has upgraded from the LX to the Primavera can share their thoughts on the two.

I'm sure you are right on your last sentence.

IMO you'll notice that the newer bike is slightly but noticeably more responsive and gets better mileage. It isn't night and day, but it exists and you can tell.

The lx150 is not as fast as a Primavera 150. We are just talking like five miles per hour.

In my humble opinion I would definitely no questions about it hold on to your lx150. It pays homage to the earlier modern Vespas. The leg trim is rounded and I find that just beautiful. I think coming out with a flat leg trim was really a bad idea.

But you said you like newer things so why not keep them both?

The displacement from the Primavera is a little higher but again not by much. Not enough to warrant getting the Primavera.

I've seriously thought about it. I just recently sold my Triumph T120 and now only have the 2 Vespas in the garage. It sure is nice having that extra room in the garage, plus not having to move one bike out to get to another one.

Both Vespas are at the front of the garage side by side, making it easy to choose one to take for a ride.

My question would be: have you taken a ride on the Primavera? Performance wise, they are going to be close as mentioned. I think you need some time on the newer model in order to make a good decision. My 2 cents.....

If you lived closer I would make this so much easier for you. I would just yank that LX from your hands give you a bunch of cash and get all that weight off your shoulders.

Yes, that would definitely make the decision easier, Unfortunately, no test rides around here and I don't know anybody with one.

Ha. I've been saying the same thing about RobaLatte's Primavera S for sale. Only a couple thousand miles apart.

I'm with Max. I'd take an injected LX over a Primavera any day.

The LX not only looks prettier, but you also get the benefit of a larger (or at least better shaped) topcase and underseat storage.

Injected LX was peak homage to the vintage Vespa. Primavera is new age design, doesn't do much for me. I almost bought a red one but when I spent some time with it in person, meh... I went with a GTS because it better resembles that traditional Vespa look.

I have a garage full of toys. I'm not riding a Vespa for performance or ride quality lol. I'm riding it for fun, style, and convenience.

The LX and Primavera will be equally fun, but the LX will be more stylish with a retro Vespa asthetic, and if you put the factory top case on both models, the LX will also be the more practical.

At the end of the day it's your ass and your money. One man's upgrade is another man's downgrade.

I went from a 2005 190 LX to a 2015 150 Primavera.
Performance feels about the same. Overall seems a nicer scooter, styling is subjective and both have their merits. Fuel economy is a little better but tank a little smaller.

You can't really go wrong with either.

To me, nothing made now looks as good as a GL, GS or Rally - these are vintage scoots. But I must admit, of the modern ones, the LX was the closest to the older style.
