Hi,
Can I install a Sei Giorni style headlamp on the front fender of a Primavera 150? I need a nice looking option to increase my visibility at night riding. Any advise is appreciated.

Hello, and welcome!
I know it's been done to a GTS, because I've seen the result myself. That being said, it would probably be significantly trickier since you wouldn't be able to just slap the entire GTV's front fender setup onto a Primavera. It would be much easier just to go old-school and add a front rack and lights. But hey, if you're up for the experimentation, nobody here will try to stop you. I don't think it's been done before, so you'd have to make it all up as you go along. |

That's what I thought because I couldn't fine anything of someone doing the trick. The rack messes up the front aesthetic imo. Thanks for your input.

I, like Witch, had a GTV 250, which is the ancestor of the Sei Giorni. I no longer have my GTV but IIRC, the light is not directly part of the fender but it's bolted on to metal bracket under a GTS fender. I'm guessing that the headlight itself prolly weighs 1-2 lbs. It would break the fender if it were just bolted to a plastic fender.
I remember the scooter Witch was referring to. The owners MV name is Bagel. I did a club ride with him once. It is a cool-looking design. I don't recall exactly but I think he found a GTV fender and light assembly and mounted it on a GTS250. See this thread: Has anyone put a GTV front light on a GTS? Miguel

Thanks Miguel for the thread info. It is helpful, not sure yet but I think I'm gonna try to do it.
The major issue would be reinforcing the plastic fender for the added weight but everything else sure looks pretty doable. |

With some mounting bolts and nuts you can support the extra stress. ABS plastic you can reenforce with ABS pipe cement you get at a local hardware store. Use some fiberglass patch you typically use in drywall applications and lap on a bunch of the ABS cement on top of that. This patch would be to thicken the plastic on the backside of where your mounting the light. You essentially make a thicker piece of plastic.

I found this exploded view of the GTV front fender assembly on Scooterwest website. If you go to the link, they list all the parts corresponding to the part number. It should be helpful. The headlight shell is $220. You might be able to find a salvaged one. You will most likely have to change out both headlights to use LEDs because you may not/likely won't have enough power to run two traditional incandescence head light bulbs. I don't know how much excess power is available on your bike. Miguel I sorta remember in your OP that you were looking to increase your visibility. There are plenty of ways to increase visibility without doing such an extensive mod but I'm not sure there is anything will look as unique. Please keep us in the loop if you go for it. Miguel |

Installing a GTV fender would be the easiest, unfortunately it wont fit a Primavera, all dimensions are different bc of bigger wheel brake etc. I don't want to mess up the looks of the 75 anniv too much anyway. So the next option would be to go with a led option that could be fitted on top of the fender.
Slowpoke, thanks for the plastic reenforcing suggestions. And Miguel thanks for the fender picture. Cheers |

If your goal is more light for night riding, have you considered changing out your existing headlight with a brighter unit? For example:

Desmo... good call. I can personally vouch for the "Flamethrower" brightness that comes off of these after market headlights we stock. Most of us at Vespa Motorsport all have some sort of upgrade like the one you provided a link to. There are other ways to add even more light, if the rider so desires. Call our parts guys and they can give you multiple options over the phone, ALL of which will be much easier to install, versus a total one off fabrication. Also, consider the "faro basso" headlight made for the larger frame 250/300 Vespas, might look a tad large on the smaller 150 fender. Best of luck either way you decide to go!

Thanks Desmo...the problem I have is not with the headlight brightness but with the position. It's too high to spot road hazards like potholes which are quite common on our roads in Puerto Rico. That's why I won't do any night riding until I fix the issue.
The Faro Basso idea seems like the best option. I'll look into that, thanks VMS! |
