Hi.
My scooter sometimes makes a mid tone intermittent rubbing noise when accelerating from stationary. it only lasts for about 3 seconds untill it's moving. My first thought is that the belt is rubbing but the belt is quite new. Could it be the clutch shoes rubbing? I can't find anything online with the same sound. Any ideas are greatly appreciated

following, as my 250 doing the same. Probably normal or need to visually check to prevent damage to scoot or riders body.

First thought is a glazed clutch bell, as it's perhaps the most frequent problem in this area. Taking off the cover and clutch bell, scoring the glaze a bit with some emory cloth or steel wool, blowing it out and putting it back together will solve it if that's the case.

Having a new tire to install, with wheel off I might as well bite the bullet and pull cover off cvt assembly and due some cleaning and checking. My scoot has a bit over 11000 miles and came with NO maintenance records. Then only valve adjustment check will be only thing left to do since my purchase.

It's called the lion roar. Everybody's right. Deglase the clutch bell and scour the shoes a little bit. Did I got that right? I'm on my second life here and if I give out false information that's going to be the end of me.

Close - it's Sealion, not Lion. If you've ever heard one, the sound is almost identical to the glazed clutch.

The friction zone is murder on a scooter clutch. It should be binary, either stopped or moving. Using the throttle to hold position on a hill will cause the symptoms you describe.

Might as well make a party of it! Perhaps not strictly necessary, but it's a good time to change hub oil too...

ALL fluids I have changed, new front tire installed ,throttle cable adjusted, all filters have been changed and or cleaned, iridium plug installed, hoses checked and replaced where needed. New rear tire on hand needs to be installed and valve clearances to be adjusted if needed. the above I have done so I have confidence that they were done "needed or not." Questionable noise upon accelerating from standstill has begun in cvt area, this being my first Vespa I followed this subject and have decided it is in my best interest to pull cover and do maintenance on clutch. belt rollers ect will be replaced if parts are found to be out of speck. I thank those that helped me make the decision to act on noises now rather maybe have expensive damage occur.
