I'd say its safe to guess that that the oil is from the oil pump, and that the airbox is not sealing all the way, hence the oil leak & possibly the source of your air leak too. The oil runs underneath the airbox in a small channel, so if the box or cases are warped, it would be very easy for oil to leak all over the place.

Gotcha ya bastard!
Yes, the oil leak problem was solved with better gaskets and the "air leak" turned out to be a sticking carburetor slide which is now unstuck. Thanks for the advice guys. |

Finished at last!
I've taken care of just about everything on my Red Rover rebuild project and now I actually have two running P200s in my garage at once… and I'm not used to that. That means that it's time for Red Rover to go. I still have to do some DMV stuff and then I'll list it on this forum, on Scootnet2 and on Craigslist but does anyone have any suggestions as to where else I should list it? I'll probably price it at $3600 or $3800 but am going to do a little more research before I settle on a price. If any MV Forum member is interested in doing a Sneak Peak sale, just PM me. You can follow this post to see all the work that has been done on it and I'll post pics in the next day or two. |

Glad you got it figured out. I didn't realize you were going to sell one, but it makes sense. I think you're in the ballpark in your pricing. It's good that you have photos to back up your work.
If I ever tried to sell anything I had restored, I would show the photos of the metalwork underneath the paint. |

I do have a couple of Before pics plus an After pic showing the crappy rattlecan paint job I did. Obviously, I don't know how to do Bondo. The red paint is factory original and rubbed out surprisingly well. No major dents and only a slight bend in the leg shield. I will probably post this for sale next week. |

I just tried posting Red Rover in the For Sale/Wanted forum but got this message:
This post it would seem Has been submitted before IE treachery It has NOT been submitted before and I want to ask the forum moderator why I got this message and what I should do next but I can't find any contact information for the moderator. Does anyone know how to contact him/her? |

A single letter or an added period will do it. Notably, spaces on the end will probably NOT work, because trailing spaces get removed. Try changing *anything* in your message. If that doesn't work, then please post the body of the message here so we can see what is wrong. |

No, there wasn't an "anything" in my original post nor any extraneous punctuation and I changed "In addition" to "also" but still got the same error message. Here is the copy:
[Fresno, CA] 1977 P200 for sale. This was purchased as a Project Scooter and now that it is finished, I am selling it so I can start a new project. The engine runs fine with new seals, cruciform, oil and gas lines, battery, rebuilt carb and Road 2.0 exhaust. Also, there are new tires, brakes, matching locks, LED lights and flasher and a new headlight. The factory-original red paint is good but the tan rattle-can paint job is crappy. It looks good from 10 feet away, or maybe 15, but a serious owner will want to repaint the cowls. You can follow the progress at Rebuilding Red Rover, 1977 P200 It is NOT registered yet in California. I started the process with DMV and have an appointment with CHP to confirm the engine number but that is not until the end of next month. Could the link to the forum be a problem? |

I recently read a post on the Forum (I think) about DOs and DON"Ts in letting a possible buyer take a test ride on a scooter that you are selling. I haven't been able to find it so does any one have a link to that post?

Does anyone know when Scootnet2 will be up again? I have been trying to list Red Rover for 3 days and I keep getting the "undergoing maintenance" message. Or is it just me?

Thank you for the contact information Hibbert. I emailed the website moderator and he got me back online and now my ad for Red Rover has been posted. They were really quick to solve the problem and I really appreciate their help. Good Guys!

Well, that's disappointing!
I thought that when I put Red Rover on the market I would get at least SOME interest. Other than a batch of scammers and two really lowball offers though, I haven't had any response to my ad. I guess I'll have to drop the price a bit to see if that generates any response. Too bad, the scoot is in good shape and well worth the trip to Fresno. |

I thought I saw a post about Dos and Don's when it comes to allowing a potential buyer to take a test ride, but I can't find it. Beyond seeing that they have the motorcycle endorsement, what do you guys recommend?

Rattle can all the white close-enough red while you wait Your listing is damn honest which is refreshing, but you'll have more interest with pink in hand. |

At that price, the title has to be there. Even then, the location limits the buyer pool.
Look at the comps in San Diego market right now (Craigslist). You are probably going to land around $3k with a title in hand, realistically. |

He flipped it and landed on his ass. Bike flew into a telephone pole. |

Of course I can always sell it to one of the guys who wants to send me a cashiers check and have someone pick up the scooter when the "check" clears. |

I've seen the same titled, running P200s on the San Diego Craigslist for $2800 for the last month. If they're not selling down here, I'd maybe consider lowering the price to whatever you have into it, or marketing it somewhere high dollar like San Francisco.

Since I've pulled Red Rover from the market , I have a little time to do some more tinkering. Does anyone have a P200 Auto lube type Carb box they would be willing to part with? Having the oil pump included would be preferred, but not required.
If you have one to sell, please PM me. |

Awe man!! Dealing with California DMV sucks!
Because Red Rover has never been registered in CA and because there is no paperwork, the DMV is wanting me to have a 3-year bond before they give me a firm title. That would be fine if I was going to keep the scooter, but I'm not and the bond is not transferable to a new owner which makes it unrealistic. It's time to register this scooter in Vermont... except we can't do that anymore. What alternatives are there now that Vermont is out of the picture? |

Do you have a Bill of Sale from a seller with a CA DL and CA address on it? Find another clerk or ask for a supervisor if so. |
