Hi guys,
on replacing a tyre on my fly 150 I discovered a leaky seal.around the drive shaft. What's the best way to go about replacing this?
Someone mentioned taking the shaft out and replacing the bearings aswel.
If this is the case. How difficult would that be and would I need special tools to do it?

Open it up and look it over. the bearing is easy to pop out but if the bearings feel fine, and not gritty or chunky, you can clean it off, change the gear oil and probably be fine. I'm pretty sure the bottom of the bearing is above the oil (might be wrong), and oil is n't going to come running out.
To open it up, take out the bolts inside the crankcase, keep them in order because they are different lengths, tap the cover off carefully so you don't ruin the gasket, and pull everything out. You will see the seal. Pop it out with a mechanic's pick, check the bearing and replace it if there's play or it's not smooth, stick the new seal in, bolt it back together, full it with oil and throw the tire back on. You can pop the bearing out by removing the circlip, heating the aluminum around it with a hair driver, and using a socket on the inside of the cover to pound the bearing out.
Stick the new bearing in the freezer, head the case again with the hair dryer, and the bearing might drop right in. If it doesn't you can use the old bearing to drive the new one in.
If it was my scooter and the bearing felt fine, I would use a straight weight 90 or 140 non synthetic if the seal was weeping. Then check the oil a few times until you realize it's not going down and forget about checking it anymore.
If the bearing's not going bad, that little bit of seepage isn't something that would put a daily driver in Italy into the shop.

it's probably just the seal.
it's internal, so you'll have to disassemble it to get there, but like MV said it's not that tough of a job.
I'd throw a new bearing and gasket at it while it was apart because that's just cheap insurance and you have to order the seal anyway. the parts aren't but a few dollars more.
hopefully the brakes aren't contaminated.
most importantly, make sure that the breather isn't clogged. this would cause excessive pressure in the gear box and force oil out past the seal. also, be sure that it's not over filled, that'll wreak havoc back there too.
