Every moped, scooter, and motorcycle I've ever had had the county of origin on the VIN plate.... the 2022 Piaggio Liberty 150S I've got has no such info...
Italy, Vietnam, China?
Thanks in advance!

The first 3 digits of the VIN are the manufacturers identifier. Piaggio typically completes assembly of scooters for the US market in Italy, but I believe there have been some exceptions. What are the first 3 digits of the VIN of your scooter?

There have been several discussions on that subject with some offering up their VIN to confirm country of origin and one or more riders mentioning a seat bucket sticker (which could be nothing more than the origin of the seat bucket). I realize Liberty's for the Australian/New Zealand market likely come from Vietnam, but past discussions have indicated that is confirmed by the VIN. Seems like that should be true for Liberty's or other Piaggio products sold in the US as well. Admittedly all scooters are built from components sourced all over the world these days, so all we are talking about is the point of final assembly in any case.

a thought - consider this as more a hypothetical rather than any kind of assertion.

maybe they are assembled in Vietnam (maybe only 90%-ish) and then shipped to Italy where modifications are performed to suit the US (NAFTA) market (eg different blinkers) and this modification warrants a VIN that starts with ZAPM as it's performed in Italy and during this a US compliance plate was bolted on before being shipped to the US.

I think I saw somewhere that some have a sticker in the pet carrier saying vietnam but had a zapm vin. this thought could explain this seeming mismatch.

Thanks everyone for the info & the links to previous discussions. The first three characters of the VIN are ZAP & there is a sticker on the underseat bucket that says "made in Vietnam".
I guess I'm a bit disappointed, but the quality seems pretty good so far.

Yep, Vietnam.
I've been all through my Liberty150i S., quality parts and assembly everywhere I look.

And I'm not one of those Vietnam War veterans who'd love to revisit the f'ing place, but I didn't let that sticker stop my purchase.

O.S.

Although, before 10 yrs of ownership taught me otherwise....thinking the worst, I quickly removed the Made in China sticker from my Kymco after getting it home. The thing was on the front of the scooter!
Ran a lot better afterwards 😌

ZAP indicates it was made by Piaggio in Italy. (For various definitions of "made").

Isn't there a digit in the VIN that indicates what plant it was actually built in? Zongshen built Fly 150 and 50cc scooters also had ZAP VIN's.

Yes. It is (allegedly) the 11th digit of the VIN.

Why not enter the VIN at the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website? -- https://vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov/decoder/

The result will show country of manufacture as well as the manufacturing plant.

edit: ah, wrote my post at the same time as Jess.

Yeah, that's a very good choice. The link I posted was about how to decode, rather than an actual decoder.

Vietnam.
My "2018" gloss red Liberty 150i S was manufactured 05/17.
Purchased in 07/17 after unboxing at the Vespa dealer in Ohio.
