Hello, I am an engineering student and my group was given a project to convert a Vespa PX 150 into electric while keeping the gearbox and clutch for manual transmission. We wanted to make a simple CAD model of the gearbox and plan where we would put the electrical components but we couldn't find the dimensions of some components. We were wondering if anyone knew the dimensions to the following components:

- Gears (outer or pitch diameter of all coloured ones below)
- Drive shaft (diameters and length)
- Cruciform gear selector (length and thickness)
- Crankcase to piston-cylinder stud holes (Depth into crankcase, diameter)
- Fuel tank (Physical dimensions: length, width, height)

I think you are going to have to head here my friend and then from the exploded views of the sections you want, look up the numbered item against part available whereby the dimensions will be shown. A bit tedious but could help you.

Maybe I'm oversimplifying things but....just remove the piston, rod and crank shaft and insert a long shaft electric motor through the existing crankshaft bearing races?

I think this has been done before, worth a search. I remember seeing it where they kept the gears but electrified. I don't remember the details because I'm not so interested in electrification on vintage but I get the appeal for others.

I knew it:

Pinasco Eureka electric conversion

It's so nice that Jess improved the search on here.

Same…

I think I'd just get a modern electric motorbike to be honest.

But he's not asking pros and cons, or if its been done, he just wants the dimensions.

If I were going to electrify a Vespa, keeping the gears is how I'd do it.

FMP test rode one a while back, too.
It's a little different design than I'd have taken, using the belt drive rather than just replacing the crankshaft with the motor shaft. Probably a good reason, I assume. I forget what he says in the video about it, though.

This solution is the one that's always intrigued me - more Thant he hun motor one.

But it does give some gear noise and I'm not sure there is really any be if it of the gearing. Tesla seams to do without.

Still - i think it's pretty cool

When push comes to shove, what exactly is the point of electrifying your vespa. Why not just get a piaggio 1 ? Other brands available.

Possibly because they look like dogshit compared to a metal bodied vintage.

We will be pushed in this direction when petrol stations close, but that's several years away.

Or pushed further in the direction when all 2 strokers are banned from the road due to emissions. Already banned in Rome Italy and other cities.
