It's not that complicated really.

If we had nothing but scooter-related content all the time, it would quickly become boring and die. Long-term members don't stick around for the scooter content. We don't just encourage off-topic content here, it is part of MV's very essence. I get grief for losing the scooter plot sometimes; posting too many photos. The same rising sun, the same dark streets. Too many 'lonely' photos ( my homeless friends sleeping on the Group W bench deserve privacy ).... Hilariously - recently discovered there has been a Group W Bench headshop, hippie shop in New Haven, Conn. since 1968! There have been a few posts that I have written, okay more than a few, that will seem like stupid questions to MV members who can do all of their own maintenance, or even just some of it. I cannot do anything……I wish I could, but there is no way I can "follow the lead etc" when looking at my engine. All of this stuff may as well be another language for me but I accept the fact that I just don't think this way, or have that sort of know how. I am fine with it, which is why I come here often. There have been many responses that are helpful, while other members have tried to make me feel dumb for not knowing certain things…….those types of members are not good ones. They fail a their attempts since I love this stuff and my hobby as a scooterist means a lot to me no matter what people think of my abilities to change oil etc. I am here for advice, not to be put down.

I've gone back to a Piaggio because there is all that info, and most of it is on this site. This is not a perfect indicator, but it is true often enough to be worth considering when buying something. Communities generally form around products that people love. Nobody creates a forum for products that are just "meh".

Or, put another way, given the choice between two products where one has community support and the other does not, the one with community support is probably the one to choose. This is not a perfect indicator, but it is true often enough to be worth considering when buying something. Communities generally form around products that people love. Though reading Modem Vespa before I bought, made me realize that for my own diy scooter wrenching, I will have all the support I need right here. That was definitely a factor in going for the Vespa. I used to work on my motorcycles as a teenager and beyond with a repair manual plus sometimes learning things the hard way. It is better to have Modern Vespa at my fingertips and it makes me feel more independent from repair shops. For me maintaining my own motorcycle or scooter adds a lot to my joy of riding. Though I hear you, after all I also had times when I didn't do maintenance myself. Then a good local shop makes all the difference.
