It's not that complicated really.
This is actually quite a bit of fun. I didn't know I could see their posts.

I suspect the posts that got them banned are deleted so you won't get to see their worst crimes

we delete a minuscule amount of posts and of those that are deleted are generally double posts, spam reports or something that is just immaterial.

we'll give you enough rope to hang yourself in the town square, it's only fitting to leave you there for all the village to see you swing.

Respectfully and strongly disagree. MV is social media for many people, and probably therapy for some as well. If we had nothing but scooter-related content all the time, it would quickly become boring and die. Long-term members don't stick around for the scooter content.

We don't just encourage off-topic content here, it is part of MV's very essence.
Woah, I was nervous there for a moment!
I get grief for losing the scooter plot sometimes; posting too many photos. The same rising sun, the same dark streets. Too many 'lonely' photos ( my homeless friends sleeping on the Group W bench deserve privacy )....
Hilariously - recently discovered there has been a Group W Bench headshop, hippie shop in New Haven, Conn. since 1968! Down the street from Yale's superb art gallery!

I've gone back to a Piaggio because there is all that info, and most of it is on this site.

and it's on this site because people have taken the time and a lot of effort to put it on here, so the big one is helpful Clap emoticon

as a side note, when buying my new bike from possibly the biggest Piaggio sales outlet in the UK, I asked about lowering the bike (I'm a short arse), and he had a look and said 'there's someone here who makes brackets to lower the bike, he's on modernvespa.com"

Amen to that. Almost everything I know about Vespas I learned here after asking a lot of questions. There really is an uncomparable plethora of knowledge on MV.

There have been a few posts that I have written, okay more than a few, that will seem like stupid questions to MV members who can do all of their own maintenance, or even just some of it. I cannot do anything……I wish I could, but there is no way I can "follow the lead etc" when looking at my engine. All of this stuff may as well be another language for me but I accept the fact that I just don't think this way, or have that sort of know how. I am fine with it, which is why I come here often. There have been many responses that are helpful, while other members have tried to make me feel dumb for not knowing certain things…….those types of members are not good ones. They fail a their attempts since I love this stuff and my hobby as a scooterist means a lot to me no matter what people think of my abilities to change oil etc. I am here for advice, not to be put down.

One of the many things that I learned from Modern Vespa is that, in the consumer landscape (be it vehicle, electronics, or whatever) when communities spontaneously form around (and about) a specific product, it's probably worth paying attention to. Or, put another way, given the choice between two products where one has community support and the other does not, the one with community support is probably the one to choose.

This is not a perfect indicator, but it is true often enough to be worth considering when buying something. Communities generally form around products that people love. Nobody creates a forum for products that are just "meh".

Let me extend an official apology on behalf of the MV membership. I agree that those are bad members, and they should not behave that way at MV.

I completely agree with this sentiment. Similarly, I only buy vehicles that have local support. For example, I would never buy a Ducati or HD or MotoGuzzi because there isn't support nearby (defined as within 10-ish miles).I do have a 22 yo BMW MC but do have local support from a factory-trained mechanic that's been working on them for 20 years and is a generation younger than me and will be here for the rest of my riding life.

I felt somewhat the same way. But then I realized, with Vespas in the US there often isn't much support around either. Even in this big city there are really only two repair shops, including the sole dealership, that specialize in Piaggio scooters.
Though reading Modem Vespa before I bought, made me realize that for my own diy scooter wrenching, I will have all the support I need right here. That was definitely a factor in going for the Vespa.

I used to work on my motorcycles as a teenager and beyond with a repair manual plus sometimes learning things the hard way. It is better to have Modern Vespa at my fingertips and it makes me feel more independent from repair shops.

For me maintaining my own motorcycle or scooter adds a lot to my joy of riding. Though I hear you, after all I also had times when I didn't do maintenance myself. Then a good local shop makes all the difference.

Ordinarily, I would probably ignore something like this from a long-term member. I've been called much worse. However, I was quite specific with Max after his latest time-out: if he could not behave, we would permanently ban him.

I am keeping my word.
