I know someone already posted a video somewhere
but I have been using the scooterwest gas funnel for the last few fill ups on my GTS and Sprint.

I am a decent filler upper of Vespas but these CA gas pump nozzles are a challenge, not only do they have the snorkel but most don't let you regulate gas pressure delivery much.

With the funnel I can put the nozzle all the way in and let the gas rip full speed until the nozzle automatically shuts off and still get a full fill up.

I bought 2 so far, I gave the first one away to a new Vespa owner.

Only minor issue is a minuscule amount of gas is left on the funnel.

I was ahead of my time... LOL

I have a solution to the tank overflow problem....

This was 10 years ago. It is not as small as that funnel but it did solve the problem.

Not sure what you mean by leaves a small amount in the funnel. Do you have gas over the top of the gas filler? If so, just wiggle the scooter side to side and it will burp the extra air out of the tank and the gas level will drop.

Not too much gas just a few drops as the filler is kinda flat, not cone shaped, no big deal.

Still love this little funnel, no ninja like attentiveness necessary while monitoring the flow of fuel.

I love it too! I keep mine in a ziplock, but with this in place, you can pull back the neck on the nozzle and watch such as not to overfill. Works every time. If you do overfill, this funnel catches it before the mess goes everywhere else.
Great tool to have with you.

I like the funnel better than the mccuff! I would occasionally get splashback on the mccuff, and it looked to need to be pried off the nozzle. None of that with the funnel! I usually just pour the extra bit of gas into my tank, then wipe down the funnel with a baby wipe before putting it in it's ziplock baggie. (I keep the wipes in my pet carrier.)

Now if I could just figure out a reliable way to consistently 'burp' my Liberty 150 before the pump turns off, so a 'full' tank isn't 1 bar down, it would be perfect!

I bump mine with my knees a few times to coax out excess air before I hang the nozzle up.

I just did a search here on MV to see if anyone had any experiences with this fuel funnel and the notoriously finicky Liberty gas tank... Mine is currently at the shop to address some stalling issues (under warranty still, thankfully) and I think repeated overflows and the evap canister is the culprit. I don't live in CA so I don't have the weird pump handle to contend with, so I'm wondering if this funnel will help me or not.

Anyways, I find that I have to take multiple breaks when I fill mine, and periodically "rock" it back and forth on the center stand to move the gas around. It's honestly like burping a colicky baby...

Another 2 thumbs up.

Saw it on ScooterWest and price was low enough had to give it a try. It works! Anyone in a vapor recovery state needs one of these. No more fiddling with the nozzle cuff.

I've been using it pretty much since I posted last in this thread. Still VERY happy with it. In fact, used it this morning before a nice 'little' ride for about 4 hours.

I just pried out that green sleeve and pitched it and now you can see down the side of the throat so no more spills. Of course, we have right wing nozzles on our pumps...of course I also have an LX, just to complicate your lives.

Maybe I just didn't have the knack for it

I bought mine from SW with high hopes, trying it both on the Liberty(?) and the GTS; but in both cases, I overflowed and made a mess. I think I prefer having to use both hands than having to deal with extra parts to just use one hand anyways, but that might just be sour grapes. I very much miss just being able to do it like a car, like with the ol' Kymco Like.

I never figured out the formula for the Liberty, but 0.25 per tick has been perfect on my 2020 GTS.

I got the McCuff on the recommendation of a MV post and managed to spray gasoline all over my fuggin scooter and my shoes. Maybe I used it wrong? I can tell you that I will never make that mistake again because I threw it in the garbage where it belongs. Made me irrationally angry as I really liked those shoes. Whoever recommended the McCuff probably wears yellow Crocs.

Not a fuel funnel, but a hack to make a packable / disposable oil funnel from a 1liter milk jug (readily available here.) Use what you can get where you live.

It works best with oil fillers on the left side of the scoot.

In WA we have the same gas pumps and I just ordered a couple of those funnels for our scoots, soooo tired of filling them at gas pumps we've been doing it at home from gas cans since getting the two new bikes. Can't wait to try these funnels, thanks for the tip!

I have this funnel for my Liberty. It fits and works fine, but here in New York we do not have the wonky gas nozzles that they have in California. I honestly don't think it makes much of a difference for a non-California nozzle.

You roll the sheath back maybe an inch, run the pump at 1/2 speed
Works fine

A 1 1/2" pvc coupling would probably doing the holding back part
I don't want another thing floating around in the pet carrier

I use the shock tool occasionally to take off a stuck gas cap

When I first got my scooter I used to spill gasoline all over everything every time I filled the tank. It was messy and infuriational and yet without even noticing when or how it came to pass, I never seem to spill anything anymore, and I'm deep in the heart of uncircumcised nozzledom. I have no idea what I have learned; if I knew I'd share it here, but at least I can say it can be done. Just don't ask me how.

I despise the sleeve on the nozzle but I've actually been saved by it once. Recently while filling up I released the lever to stop pumping but it got stuck and started to overfill. As I pulled back on the nozzle my other hand released the sleeve and the gas actually stopped squirting everywhere. I still hate that device though.

In South Africa, it is (technically) illegal to pump your own gasoline.
Like many regulations here, this is not strictly enforced.

The reasoning?

1. Members of the public are not properly trained for the task, so it must be done by the pump attendant.
2. It creates employment opportunities for pump attendants, who will also check engine oil and water, pump your tyres and clean your windscreen.
(A small tip is usually paid in return for the services rendered at the pump.)

Once upon a time in the US, that's the way it was, then there was a slow transition with "full service" and "self service" available with full service being more expensive. Over time full service went away for the most part.

Doesn't New Jersey still require the attendant to fill the tank?

In Argentina, they sell LNG for cars. Everybody has to exit the car before they fill it. I'm not sure why, but it's one of the laws or rules that everyone seems to comply with.
