I'm stuck by the road 1km from home (don't be surprised if in a few hours I just push the damn thing home) ...

story:

Riding and the engine light came on.
pulled over and stop with kill switch (ignition remained on).
scanned for codes via obd and got P1300 which doesn't exist in the list in the workshop manual.
tried starting and nothing
turned ignition off, waited, and on again.
tried starting again and nothing.
scan again for codes and now has no codes.
noticed blinkers not working, front running lights are working, don't know yet for others lights (will check soon).
visually checked fuses and saw blown 7.5a.
swapped the 3 x 7.5a fuses around and blew the same one again.
it's the middle 7.5a of the group - not yet sure what that is for ...

have just now walked home to get a few things such as a multimeter and my laptop so I can stare at the wiring diagram on a screen bigger than my phone and of course a few other tools in case I feel adventurous enough to rip the glovebox half off with passers by watching.

yay 😭😭😭
at least the weather is nice for the walk between the bike and home

1km is a nice workout. Is there a slab of VB attached to the scooter?

Nah, I have more taste than that.

Anyway, have fixed it and have just ridden it home and am about to pour a pint* of a German Pilsener

* I'm now waiting for someone to point out that it's actually 500ml

So what was the problem causing the fuse to blow?

PS Enjoy your Pilsener

I was just about to write that, need to drink some beer first.

Cause:
the +ve wire for the secondary stop light that is on my top box had broken at the plug and shorted against the rack.

Solution:
wrap the end of the wire in tape and insert another fuse and pray

Here's the stop light that I installed 5,000km ago
Brake light on top of top box

Thank you for that correction. I thought someone had possibly sold you a fake German beer.

Ah, thanks for that. Good to read that it wasn't a random Vespa problem, but connected to own endeavours. And especially good to read that you fixed it!

That was a bummer! It's a hard sinking feeling, isn't it? When your Vespa suddenly dies like that. I'm glad you have the presence of mind to fix it

Had a Lambrette one time in the back of a cart pulled by a horse, in order to avoid a 2.5 mile push. But the horse wouldn't deviate from the route it knew so still had to push a mile.

+1
Glad it ended relatively well. I'm sure the beer helped soothe the nerves.

Glad you found the problem and fixed it. Also glad I have a road service plan. No way would I be able to push a scooter 1km, or even half that.

I got a road service plan, added RV and motorcycle tow, good enough for a 200 mile tow

BUT I'd push the little two wheeled beasts a country mile or two before letting a tow truck driver at them.
Seen many a cars be towed into bodyshops that they jacked up and or hooked up at the the wrong spots, causing crushed rocker panels, damaged cooler cores, bent suspension
and they are way worse on hauling motorcycles round here

Hat's off to you! You found and fixed a relatively well hidden short.

I hope the state of Pilsner is better in Australia than what I've seen in the US. There used to be an Estonian Pils by the name of Carlsberg in green 1liter cans. But that has disappeared of late.
