I still don't understand how to open Vespa hose clamp.
I tried with a screwdriver but it was dangerous, I finish with a pair of wire cutters but it was not easy.
How to open safely (for me and for the vespa) this hose clamp ?

The one on the rocker cover (and others?) is a single use crimped band.
It's dumb from our perspective. https://www.scooterwest.com/oem-style-stepless-hose-clamp.html |

A good pair of 10" dykes work good to cut clamp at the middle and twist apart but I try lifting the tab with a small screwdriver first

when replacing use stainless steel clamps that don't have holes in them. see picture at https://modernvespa.com/forum/post2539015#2539015

How to open safely (for me and for the vespa) this hose clamp ? The original style is called an Oetiker clamp and you can purchase them on Amazon. |

When I re-built (mostly BMW) cars I often reused those clamps. They pop loose via a strategically placed small thin bladed screwdriver and can be re-clamped as well. Unless they were badly bent and/or hose damaged anyway, I didn't cut them.
I'm not recommending it- just saying I did it often. Saved money and doable. In my parts cabinet I keep the re-usables design ones and do replace the others at times. Matters the location and access. |
