So my scoot was in a locked garage, inside a locked fence perimeter but I left the keys in the seat when connecting the battery minder. Scooter gone. Keys gone. Ins company is "asking" for the keys. What to do? Does anyone have a blue ignition key that will never be used again that I could buy?

Or other suggestions...besides not being so absent-minded.

TY!

Tell the truth, still should be covered?

Keys are not required with my insurance provider for a stolen vehicle. Not sure if things are different with your insurance company or for those residing in location location.

**EDIT - looks like you need comprehensive coverage to be covered.

Mr. Frostbite Falls might see this and be able to chime in.

Do you still have one of the original two keys (master)?

In case the thing shows up again, you might run into a problem if the key doesn't match the vehicle....

I had a work acquaintance that had a story about how he had torched a house for money...he was telling the story about how he stored the used tires in the attic to keep them from being damaged by the UV rays (once the tires catch there is no putting it out and it will be a total loss) then he was walking down the front steps with the gas cans in each hand lit cigarette in mouth when he stumbled...

Supposedly it is not illegal to be stupid, thank god, and insurance is what comes into play when people make stupid mistakes. If you fully admit to a stupid mistake they have to cover...if you try to fib your way out of the stupid mistake then they gotcha?

Insurance company asking you for the keys seems to me to be a tactic to find a reason not to cover the loss. I don't know if not having the keys would be a reason not to cover the loss but I am thinking if they can catch you fibbing that would be a reason.

Man, all good thoughts. Thank you all. I admit im afraid to tell the adjustor. If I send them a key I dont see how they could track it? They are "asking", not requiring. Hmmm...

If they locate the scooter after you've claimed and it has the keys with it…

As asked above - don't you still have the master key (the red one)? Why not give the agent that one?

I never had the master key, just the ignition and stow box. I've texted the previous owner, a motorcycle dealer himself and neighbor, so we'll see.
