Any advantage to ordering a Vespa off their website as opposed to directly from a dealer?

My local dealer quoted me a price that was significantly higher than the numbers I was getting off the website. Mostly, it was all in the added on dealer fees, higher prep numbers and such than the website was showing.

I know it will be delivered through my local dealer.

This will be for a 2023 Primavera 150.

Once it is delivered they will have a delivery fee, paperwork, set up, registration, and taxes.
Don't undercut your dealer they really are a great resource.

Pick a good dealer if you have that option.

Check out the difference in website quotes from a couple dealers within striking distance to me
quotes seem complete OTD

I agree with the poster about supporting your local Vespa dealer but all dealers are not equal.

I would not want to rub the selling dealer (and servicing dealer while under warranty) the wrong way
but listening to Robot talk on the subject, Vespa motorsports doesn't seem to care if you order online, notice how their price on the (beige GTS) is 10% lower than the other dealership. They also give away free maintenance advice, have excellent parts dept and their service department is still jam packed.

I have 4 Vespa dealers within striking distance from me but when the time comes, I'm driving the extra miles to Vespa Motorsports.
I went there about a year ago to buy a Primavera 150 for my daughter, their sales guy was really helpful and informative but he talked me out of it because my daughter wasn't tall and experienced enough to ride a Primavera 150

Also maybe some dealers sell every scooter Vespa allocates to them and get more scooters sold through their store with customers ordering from factory?

I've been on the fence too long and need to make the purchase. My local dealer wants to sell me this huge buffalo of a scooter that has BMW on it. They also want to add a lot of fees....funny thing; VM can ship a scooter to me for over a kilo buck LESS than my bay area CA dealer.

And VM isn't such a long drive away. I doubt I will ever use the local dealer for warranty or service. At some point, voting with your $$ might be a wakeup for the local dealers.

Now I had no problem spending the money for my other bikes (MGuzzi, Duc, and Suz) at local dealers but they seemed more interested in supporting my needs than taking huge shipping, Doc and PDI fees. I do not hesitate to support a local bricks and mortar, but $750 PDI and $250 Doc fees are crap.
sorry, cranky old man's opinion

Nice post. Thanks.

Yes, I want to support and will support my local dealer. They are fairly new in town. But at the same time, they have to work with me. I have not sat down face to face yet, so we will see.

I just found the Vespa website purchase area interesting and the numbers were a bit different than the ones' my dealer sent me.

bluside,
kinda sad that the 150cc has almost the same amount of taxes and fees as the 300cc

Percentage of purchase price 150cc is more in fees,
(I get rider size is an issue for some) but makes the 300cc a much better value IMO

I am no fan of dealers. I've bought close to 30 new bikes, and got scammed on all but 2 of them. In those cases the situation was the same. They were leftover models, the last year for that model, the dealer had a bunch of them, and they weren't selling. I got them OTD for under MSRP. That's not going to happen right now, with their being a shortage of everything. Dealers are price gouging like crazy. There are no decent Vespa dealers in my state. They all want several thousand $$$ over MSRP. It sure would be nice if you could buy a new bike like a refrigerator or washing machine. Just go to a store and pay whatever the price tag on it says. Unfortunately there is no way to get a new bike without going through a dealer. And whether you just go to a dealer and buy it, or order it, you still have to pay all those bogus fees.

why not buy a couple year old vespa with only a few hundred miles on the clock? There are tons of people who buy them and then feel uncomfortable / uneasy riding and never put any miles on before selling. You can get a much better deal this way.

Plus you can still show your dealer the love by doing your service there even if you didn't buy it there.

This.
That's how I got my 2022 Liberty 150S a couple of weeks ago. Dealer in Plano had 2 of them, with 2700 and 3500 miles, for $1000 less than they quoted me a new one. The PO paid the setup and freight so I didn't have to. Plus, it came with a windscreen, top box, and 2 extra years of warranty.

I ordered my 2022 Primavera 150 from the website. The price was the same as if I'd bought from the dealer, and I wanted the wait of the build time so I could get my motorcycle endorsement and all that stuff.

My dealership has been in business a long time and was super helpful with questions and stuff. If I'd have been ready to buy that day, I wouldn't have had any concerns getting my scoot from them directly. I think it really depends on the dealer!

In my case, I already have a couple year old Vespa LX 150ie. I'm interested in a new one. I like to be the one to do the break-in and put the first 1.000 miles on it. The very few that are listed for sale around here, are asking too close to the price of a new one. The price of a used one would have to make it worthwhile to me. So far, I have not found that to be the case. They are trying to recoup the extra fees they had to pay. With a new one, I can choose the color, choose the exact model, get a full warranty, extended warranty, and get financing if I so choose.

I guess it's the old story. You have to pay to play.

Revolution Moto seems to be the best of the Bay Area dealers.

Scuderia is awful. I'm so glad I didn't buy from them.

Same story with used Honda and Toyota cars and sake rockets, always end up buying new after seeing used offerings.

I got lucky last summer on a couple used Vespas but good deals on fresh ones are rare
