Searching before posting this I found an old discussion of a swing arm squeek issue from 2008, and it looks like the bikes were older yet. It related to a hole in the swing arm used that was too small and needed to be enlarged. There was supposed to be a service update of some sort. But that was then, and our Vespa is years younger.

We have a 2013 LX50 that has a squeek when hitting bumps, very obvious, but not going to stop the ride. I strongly suspect something related to the swing arm. I'd like to fix this before our season starts.

Anybody else face this on LX50 or LX150? Got any details on the fix?

Thanks!

Are you sure it isn't your shock absorber?

Nope. I'm not sure of anything. How would you check?

This is so elementary that I wonder if you're putting me (us) on.

But if you're sincere, have someone sit on the bike while it's on the ground, not on it's center stand. Have them bump up and down to trigger the noise while you listen for where it's originating.

After that, if you can't figure it out, take it to a mechanic.

So first, I'm not putting anyone one. It does not seem simple to me, or I'd probably already have it figured out and wouldn't bother posting here.

Taking it to a mechanic isn't an option based on location. The one dealer I have near me is disreputable.

Sitting on the bike and bumping up and down does not cause the squeek. It's only road bumps.

I might be able to prop it up and disconnect the shock. Soon, hopefully, waiting on weather to work on the driveway.

If it is road shock induced, it will obviously be hard to diagnose. I have heard squawks from a dry bushing on the shock and from a rough spring end rotating as it compresses. It might do to block up the rear and and disconnect the bottom of the shock to get a better look. I'm hoping this isn't a swingarm issue for obvious reasons. best of luck, I hate mysterious squeaks.

Jaddie, I believe I owe you an apology. I wasn't trying to be insulting or "snarky", but I can see how my comments might have been construed that way.
I'm sorry. Mea Culpa.

We welcome folks to the forum. I'm a relative newbie myself and folks have been very understanding of my questions and generous in their answers.

Have you solved your squeak issue? My first thought is to try to isolate the source of the sound. Maybe disconnect the rear shock, or squirt some skunk piss on the swing arm bushing and see if it affects the sound. Maybe the inner fender is rubbing on something? Obviously, once you know what's squeaking, you can fix it or replace it. At that point you can bet there's someone around here who will know what to do.

Once again, my bad. Best wishes and welcome to the forum.
