Modern Vespa

Greetings from Newport, RI, fellow Vespiti! New member here. First scooter but not first motorcycle. Recently picked up a 'as new' 300-mile, 2021 GTS 'Racing 60' in BRG. The gold wheels are an acquired taste...but love the rest.

It took a few seconds (and still does) to get accustomed to the 'no clutch' and 'sit back and get comfy' foot wells but what a joy to ride!! I'm a toy guy and love unique variety. The Vespa is the trifecta to a color matched Morgan Three Wheeler and Ural sidecar. Seasonal traffic here is brutal so a scooter is the perfect 'park it and forget it', wasp-darting alternative.

Sorry, no photo's yet. But I've already raided ScooterWest to add a few farkles such as a floor rack, rear rack, smoked LED's, side reflector replacement plugs and Rizoma grips/levers/mirrors. A Cheeky seat is next if I can just figure out the best material/color!

I'd enjoy meeting any of you in the area!

I should make a trip to Newport from Brooklyn sometime this summer. If I do, Ill make sure to let you know. Maybe we shall have a drink on the water.

Welcome, saw Newport and thought at first it was Newport Beach CA 😭 we need more scooter riders here.

Cool new ride, most the rear racks also double as a good back rest for passengers.
Also if you're going to be riding a passenger many think the passenger foot pegs are too much of a stretch, these foot-peg extenders make my passengers happy

Thanks for the reminder to order the footage extenders. I'm 6' and my passengers' feet are so far forward that it impedes my ability to put my feet down under me quickly. The extenders are a double win.

'Leave well enough alone' has never been in my OCD vocabulary.

Welcome to the forum. Newport is dear to my heart. I was stationed there from 74 to 76. Best duty in the Navy!

Before I could get Navy housing my wife and I lived at 5 Rhode Island Ave. Just behind the post office. Our first daughter was born in the Naval hospital.

What a town. Many nice places to ride, too! Ocean drive for sure, but not during peak season.

I think the Jamestown area would be good riding, too; Down towards point Judith. The old Jamestown bridge had an open metal grate for a deck. It was perilous even in a car. But, I think they built a new bridge. I don't know.

So many great memories. Thanks for bringing them to mind.

I like the color British Racing Green too.

It was the color of my first car.

Strangely, that car was an Alfa Romeo.

So I called it Italian Racing Green.

There is a RI chapter of VCOA (Vespa Club of America) in RI. Search for Rhode Island Vespa Club on Facebook.

My wife and I camp at Fishermens Memorial Campground and bring our Vespas with us, so hopefully we can ride together!

Newport is, as best as I can determine, also the Buddy 50 rental capital of the free world.

Of course we aren't counting Bermuda, where the model is called "Ligero" with some cosmetic differences.
