Some of the comments put the blame on the car driver - said he aimed for the scooter and did not hit the brakes. I think he was just trying to steer away from the fool on the scoot. I'm glad they showed the rider moving after the accident, but I bet he's really hurting bad.

He was lucky, the car going the other way after he'd hit the deck narrowly missed his head!

Wow...quite the reverse situation of my crash. This rider clearly wasn't aware, and didn't bother to take a cue from the car next to them. Driver couldn't do a hell of a lot, other than perhaps just panic-brake.

And yet: once again, it appears the scoot's step-through frame helped save the rider's legs. All the endorsement I'll ever need.

Yes, quite the reverse. You, Amateriat, are a seasoned rider. This one does not have a clue and paid a high price.

Thanks. Things are progressing as expected. My next (final!) surgery happens on the 21st, after which the serious-healing bit begins. More news after that.

BTW: Was our hapless rider in that video wearing a helmet? I couldn't tell, but if he was, it looked pretty damned skimpy.

I'm pretty sure he was NOT wearing a helmet. Also, shorts and short sleeve shirt! Just because it is a scooter doesn't mean you don't need protection!

Problem is, when this guy gets in an SUV he'll still not have a clue. And then he's going to kill others with his total lack of common sense.

I blame the gutless 7hp scooter. If he had 23hp he would of made it across and out of danger !

I think the rider was wearing a helmet; you can see it bouncing out of bottom frame after impact. It probably wasn't fastened.

Damn!! That was hard to watch. When I saw the crash I thought for sure that guy was not only dead but in lots of little pieces. Then the car coming from the other direction almost got him. I didn't see a helmet, it actually looks like he was wearing a baseball cap. He may still be alive, but I find it hard to believe he did not suffer a serious and permanent brain injury, especially if he was not wearing a helmet. Can't tell if there was a stop sign or traffic light there, but his view was completely blocked by that silver vehicle. There was no way he could see if anything was coming, yet he pulled out into the intersection anyway.
