My selector box batwing judders when in neutral on my Vespa p200e. Only notice it yesterday. Had the fly wheel off because of a knocking sound after a bit of riding and found one of the screws was wrong size. Must of got it mix up. Then I noticed the batwing juddering when running in neutral.

Something in the selector box is worn out. Probably the selector box pin. Maybe the batwing itself. Good news is that it's a cheap n' easy fix. Or just replace the whole box. FA Italia version is solid value-for-money, IMO.

Have you had trouble with shifting or the motor jumping out of gear?

yes slipping in 2rd but I change the cruciform and it's stopped. Shim gap is right I took it to my mate at his shop. I will get a repair kit or buy a new one.

i'd say that the gear selector plunger bolt/shaft is bent slightly , the part that the pawl on your selector box locates onto the end of the drive shaft not this particular model but this piece , to verify remove the selector box no need to remove the cables but you might have to remove the kick start lever , with the rear wheel off the floor start the engine and see if it runs true or it has a "wobble"
hope this helps

I'm with Chandler, start at the selector box. Pop it off and look at the internal arm for slop. There shouldn't be any between the batwing gear and arm inside!

If you squeeze the clutch and hold it for 15 seconds while the motor runs, does the sound fade or go away? That would indicate something in the gearbox/Cush drive.

If no change it's probably crank bearings.

Is it just me, or does it seem like that motor is just vibrating a lot in general?

It's not me then. I'm going to swop the engine with my t5 engine. I will open it up to see what's going on.

Yea definitely something off there. Did you try holding the clutch for a while? That'll get the gearbox to stop spinning and you can isolate the noise.

Watching how much it was vibrating, I think something rotational is either bent or out of alignment.

Did anything bad happen to that motor that you're aware of?

Put the engine on a block, so the rear wheel spins. When in neutral listen for clicking. If it does click, add more gaskets to the gear selector. This will move the cruciform into the middle of 1st and 2nd. If it won't adjust, then it might be that it's the wrong gear selector.
