My light has gone on a few times lately. On and off. But now it's been off for a while. Is there a chance whatever was going on may have corrected itself

It depends on what was causing the light. Gas related issues like spilling gas into the evap cannister will correct itself after it dries out for example.

My CEl was turning a few times then after a few days would go off. It was related to the evap cannister/gas. A few times after filling up the CEL would show up and then go away a few days later. A few posts about it like you here suggested it to be due to the evap stuff. Thereafter I have tried to overfill ...

Wonder if a dealer would read the error codes for you for a small fee or the fee would be steep to warrant such a investigation.

If the check engine light comes on because of things such as fuel overfill, there is a good chance the dealer won't be able to see an error code.

Probably cheaper to buy a code reader than pay the dealer (if you have an HPE)

Has the bike been sitting for a long time with out being started or on a battery tender?

A low voltage battery situation can cause this, until the battery is fully charged, once charged appropriately the light will turn off. Guessing you saw it the first couple rides of the season?
