I had a minor crash with a car. My fault - low speed collision with the side of their bumper so some light damage to their paintwork. The bike was largely fine with a smashed front mudguard (wheel cover) and the fascia slightly coming away - rides absolutely fine.

It is inevitable that the car driver will make a claim and I have reported it to my insurer. Here's the question - should I claim for the damage to my bike as well against my insurance? I think that the damage is a couple of hundred pounds. Will that make a difference to my future insurance premiums given that it all stems from one accident?

You'll lose any NCB anyway if the car driver claims (unless it's protected) - so I'd add your damage to the claim as well, assuming it's a fully comp policy. If they don't, then don't, as you'd have to pay any excess anyway and that might come to more than the claim.

Best to phone up the insurer - or ask your broker if you went through one.

In California, I would not. Insurance cost starts rising year after year even if you just file a single claim. I am basically self-insured when it comes to accident damage to my vehicles. My self-pay for damage is $5k or so. The insurance would declare it a loss anyhow if they had to pony up that much. And it makes a huge difference in insurance cost. I pay less than $200 or so per year on my MP3.
Medical coverage and third party damage is what I pay for.

CA and UK insurances and requirements are entirely different. Medical coverage? Why would the OP need that?
