Idiot, doesn't even have a helmet. And I bet the battery wouldn't last long at that speed

I'm surprised there aren't more stories like this. After seeing the guy flying down the BQE on an E kick scooter past traffic on YouTube the NYPD should be out with lassos.

This needs to be read aloud in the voice of Phil Hartman/Lionel Hutz:

"My client's need for speed, for lack of a better word, was a genuine attempt to get to work," the lawyer said.

Why would you think you had a chance to escape two cops on motorbikes?
Biggest idiot ever, and not even a kid or teenager. A man in his 30's ! !

My 2nd favorite line in that article:

"You are way beyond the age which I expect men to appear before me driving scooters and doing stupid things," the magistrate said.

KZ 1000ST I am not getting political but anything goes now days. The Police are afraid to move on anything. Electric is one of the problems children can ride their little electric toys on the sidewalk my neighbor can ride his electric golf cart on the sidewalk I can ride my electric bike that goes 45 anywhere I want. When I get on the expressway the sign says nothing below 125cc. So how many cc was the Scooter it could be legal.

Yeah, these LAPD are so laissez-faire & permissive. Those are the qualities about them people non-politically bring up in conversation around here.

There are just no regulations for e-xxx in a lot of municipalities. At least, they're not enforced.

I see a kid every morning on one of those e-dirt bikes. No helmet, no lights. Blasting down the road, sidewalks, hopping curbs, doing close to 40mph (looks like they top out in the high-30's). Cringeworthy.

I know there are no cc involved it was a rhetorical question. We live in a whole new world the scooters motor may be equal to a 125cc bike so it was completely legal.

in what world would that ever be highway legal? it lacks even the most basic components for safe operation: head light, tail light, brake light. not to mention those tires are certainly not speed or load rated.

there is exactly zero-point-zero legal about operating that on a public highway.

The police where I live are not "afraid to move on anything". Simply that.

Dibiasio the reply was to fledermaus if the electric scooter was equal to 125cc it would be legal on the Freeway. I am done commenting on this post.

if you don't understand why this would not be legal on the most basic and fundamental level, completely regardless of the "size" or "ability" of the motor, then it's probably best to be done commenting on this.

...because police policies in your town don't extend across the entire planet.

Here (Toronto) the cops will turn on their lights and make a lot of noise, but if a motorcyclist decides to go brap brap (which is "bye bye" in motorcycle), TPD won't give chase.

They'll run the plate, run the footage for anything that could be identifying, come knock on your door that night, but they won't chase. At the end of the day they have to prove that was you, on your motorcycle. Not likely to happen unless you open your mouth and something stupid comes out.

Bonus fun fact: "But what about the bird in the sky?"
Toronto police don't own a helicopter. Occasionally for special events they may ask to borrow one from York Regional Police, but that's usually done proactively, because bureaucracy is the death of efficiency.

I think the custom here is to quote the guy you're responding to directly, if it's not the OP. Maybe don't get impatient with me if you ain't the communicator you think you are.
