No. Not a romantic. Just a realist.
All my bikes spark joy. The big Kawasaki for it's crude ungodly speed down to the Dong Fang and how improved it is over 2008 models.

I saw the bikes in your signature. That's why I only asked for the model years.

So you die and that $10,000 goes to someone else, when you could have had so much fun on a cool scooter for the last riding years of your life.

I say, life is short.

Make the most of it while you can.

I have two cool scooters, by my standards, already. My big decision right now is what kind of motorcycle to buy for my declining years. Kawasaki is coming out with an Interceptor version of the 400cc line and so is CF Moto. My 750 is getting a little bulky and cumbersome for me. I want something Interstate capable but not too excessive. Maybe a CF Moto Adventura would be nice. I'll try one at Americade in a couple of weeks.

I don't understand. The model years are in the signature too.

But okay. A 1983 Kawasaki Spectre, a 1991 Honda Nighthawk, a 2009 CF Moto Fashion and 2021 Dong Fang Super built by Tiyen motors.

You are right. My mistake

I looked at your profile where it is common to have the model year. I asked you add them there. Then you said signature, and I didn't see the shift.

To me, it's a matter of taste. I own a couple of hand crafted firearms that were very expensive. Neither one is any more functional than something off the shelf from Cabella's, except maybe in accuracy; it would be inexpensive to take the one from Cabella's to a gunsmith for a little work on the trigger and stock to erase that difference. Tailored slacks or thrift store overalls keep your willie equally warm. Irrational, but so is life.
As an "investment"...bah. Luxury brands like Vespa or Purdey command a premium when they are purchased, and still do when they sold; despite what old wives have been told, nobody ever got rich buying any luxury goods.
OTOH, bargain basement no-name stuff, especially in a critical application like a machine carrying you about at 60mph are another matter altogether. That's why there's nobody making cut-rate single engine aircraft. If money's tight, barring some major technological difference like ABS, a car or bike that's been cared for is as good today as it was ten years ago, and a fraction of the price.

I bought my Medley new about a month ago after waiting for a few months for a second hand one to pop up in the colour I wanted. Sure enough one just sold locally that was a year old with 2K KMs on it for $2500 less than I paid for mine. Murphy's Law. So I would say no it's not worth it but I love every ride on mine none the less.

I got puzzled at so many people restricting the word investment to only mean money in to _money_ out. if they'd watched the video they would have realised that what matters is that the out is of value - pleasure is of value albeit hard to quantify.

And further to this post, Piaggio just announced a $750 discount on the Medley.

Oh well...
The Medley is a terrific scooter I regret getting rid of mine a month ago.
Did I miss your detailed review?

Will do one once I get a few more kilometres on it. Apart from commuting to work, I've only done a few trips around town on it. I want to take it on a good, long ride through some twisty roads.

I've had just as many good times on less iconic scooters that have cost less.

It's not necessarily what you ride rather than what you're doing with it that brings enjoyment.

The only thing I can ever think of as an investment is buying real estate. Vespa are pleasurable. I mean you won't have the smile you get on a Vespa if you walk into your investment property. Laughing emoticon

Scooters are toys or transportation depending on the person, A new one is a depreciating asset so no, new is not a good investment but if you can afford the difference without caring, it is an investment in your enjoyment if new is your desire. Really hard to defend as a sound financial investment. I could of done everything I am doing for 1/2 of what my new 23 cost and been just as happy but i wanted to start out with new for some reason. I truthfully would of gotten more fun out of two used ones for the same money, I love things in Pairs.
