You're right. That's a terrible lift table. I strongly suggest a more robust model (i.e. one that isn't painted red).

That old Harbor Freight lift table has reliably hoisted many a motorcycle over the past dozen years, and a few damn hefty ones (2016 Indian Vintage, for one example).

My increasingly creaky knees have thanked me for getting them that lift for as many years as I've had it.

Oh, and the red paint is slowly but steadily removing itself from all the oil and various caustic 'goos' and solvents that have been dripped, spilled, and splashed on it over the years.

I would like a better lift table, but this cheap-ass thing won't give up, and I don't have the heart to dump it on someone else yet.

When I bought it, these were under $300, now I see that HB wants $600+ for one. They're good, but they're not $600+ good.

It's an 83 inch span DC-3 that, believe it or not, my wife built from a Royal Kit back around 1985. She was my girlfriend then, and built it in her small apartment. She constructed that thing entirely by herself, I had zero input or influence in the project.

It's followed us around, house to house, state to state, for about four and a half decades, and had hung from many a living room ceiling.

It's balsa and hardwood construction, planked, and covered with fiberglassed cloth. It's never had engines installed, and she's never attempted to fly it, which is, no doubt, why it's still with us. Building it was one thing, but flying this kind of RC aircraft is not for beginners.

It currently resides on the south wall of our garage, where it's reasonably protected. I keep threatening to turn it into a winter project and completely refinish it and add some nice details. She was talking about throwing it out about a decade ago, but my I wouldn't let her.

Although never completely finished, it's livery is patterned after an actual dutch-registered Douglas DC-3 that has since crashed in the Netherlands and was destroyed in 1996, unfortunately, with no survivors. Her model has the Hewlett-Packard lettering, which at an earlier time sponsored the plane.

I've got about 800 hours in a Racer, it was a hoot as long as both engines kept turning.
Nice model.

Currently on a much bigger and better lift now, but I totally loved my red table lift. Many years of happy service. Don't be mad at OP for having good taste lol

Ok, but be careful of what you wish for.

I'm hoping to not go all 'Pee Wee Herman' with this GT and keep some semblance of dignity in the mix.

But never fear, I'll stop well before the checkerboard suspenders, 'high water' black slacks', loafers, and white socks.

The reason why I never recommend the Justin Bieber Edition to anyone who might be inclined to go for a ride, at all, ever.

Toothpaste and an electric toothbrush can help in a pinch though.

I have thought about white walls and would appreciate a report on the brand and how they feel for grip and comfort as compared to whatever brand tire that the WW's are replacing. The new city grip 2's that replaced the 6 yr. old tires that came with my scoot grip quite well on dry roads but have yet to be experienced in the wet. apologizing for doing what you choose for yourself is, in my opinion, something that I would not choose to do. Keep the plane and hope the white walls do well for you.

My wife has several hundred miles on the whites that she has on her Speedmaster, and they have stayed surprisingly clean even though it's a chain drive machine.

They will show some brake dust, however, and if you use a lot of chain lube, that will show on that side of the rear wheel sidewall.

The Whites on the Vespa will be very easy to keep clean, due to it's fully enclosed final drive system, and having a centerstand helps that enormously too.

It's not going to be a problem keeping them clean on the GTS, and I'm willing to spend a little extra effort to keep them looking good.

How they perform as compared to the oem tires is another thing, though.

Time will tell.

My seemingly apologetic title is facetious, and merely an opening line to get the conversation started. I make no serious apologies for my scooter/motorcycle decisions, aesthetic or otherwise.

It's all just goofy fun...or at least it is until someone loses an eye or something.

Are those whitewalls tubeless? I used to have whitewalls on my Genuine Stella, but they were not tubeless. I had a couple of flats with them, but the Stella has a spare. I was going to put whitewalls on my blue Yamaha Vino 125, but could not find any that were tubeless. A flat tire with tube type tires means a tow truck. They also tend to go flat REAL QUICK when punctured, which can cause an accident.

Unfortunately, due to thunderstorms currently in our area, and my screwy work schedule for the next couple of days, I won't be able to ride the GTS until late tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.

The writer Joe Queenan coined a silly fake German word after seeing Barry Manilow in concert, scheissenbedauern ("shit regret"), to describe "the disappointment one feels when exposed to something that is not nearly as bad as one hoped it would be." Is it that with which I am now filled?

I think you need a matching white floor mat to obtain scheissenbedauern.

I have a new black rubber floor mat that I bought for the GTS last autumn but never installed, and have decided not to put it on the scooter.

I should give it to someone who really wants something like that.

That tan seat, however, probably has to eventually go. I've never liked it with the blue bike.

Definitely!

But around here, it seems like any available 'bin space' is taken up by stock Harley mufflers.

Yup, I think the next set of tires will be white wall. A positive review from JB, after putting on a few thousand miles should lock my thinking in. TY for all your pics. What brand and model tires might you have JB?

They're Shinko tires, 723's?

Their reviews are...umm...'mixed', but I'm stubborn enough to take a chance and make my own decision on them.
