I added a new, matching Vespa Top Case to my '23 GTS300 Super - worst printed instructions ever (but that's another story.)

I added a picture here of the lock and its plastic COVER. I assume it's to protect helmets from damage. The cover was dangling loose when I installed the box and I THINK I've positioned it correctly, BUT I DON'T KNOW for sure.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Is there any other way it would fit and work?

Since it wasn't attached properly when it was unboxed, I'll accept that my way works as a fix; but that wasn't the question. So, it sounds like you're saying, "I don't know but,...". I try not to assume anything and never trust the obvious (but that's just me.) I hope we're both right.

It means that if it only fits one way, that's the way it's supposed to go on.

I know that's what you want it to mean (as do I) and heaven knows this was the least of my issues doing the install (I hate it when I'm done and there are parts left over) but I was going for factual versus logical.
That would look like, "Yes, that's how it's designed."
I like logic but, again, that's not what I was asking for.

Given the underwhelming response to this (really minor) issue, I'm going to make two guesses - maybe somebody can "confirm or deny" them.
=
1. This is a new thing, just introduced by Vespa because of rider feedback about damage caused by the unprotected lock mechanism. This would explain why I never saw or heard about the cover in any of the "installation" videos I viewed.
AND/OR
2. The cover, because it arrives "loose/unattached", is being removed by Vespa "installers" or users because they don't recognize its true purpose. Maybe they think it was some sort of shipping protection?

I have too much time on my hands to think of such things...
