I'm painting my vespa lx50 2 stroke and I'm wondering about floor paint.
On the LX50 2T the floor is unpainted just a black car bumper material.
I'm wondering if I use 3 coats of primer and 4 costs of paying will it scratch easily with use, would I be better off not painting it and buying a floor mat as it wouldn't matter if the floor mat scratches the unpainted surface.

Thanks

njackste,

I prefer the floor mat. Many do not because they believe water forming under the mat causes the floor to rust. My Vespa GTS300 is 10 years old. I did have some very minor paint deterioration under the mat. I simply buffed it clean and used VESPA Red touch up paint on the small spots.

I prefer the look of the black floor mat.

Best to you on the Emerald Isle.

When I wash the scoot, I take the mat off and dry underneath.

I have owned a couple of LX150s - not an LX50, but I believe the body is pretty much the same. As I recall, the floor boards are painted and then topped with rubber strips. I'd suggest you remove the strips, repaint the floor, and then replace or reinstall the rubber strips (depending on condition).

My LML when I bought it came with a stunning 'white' rubber floor-mat which looked gorgeous and matched the white-wall tyres, but given the colour, was pretty impractical and all too rapidly became grimy! So I took it off, and washed it by hand with with biological laundry powder. It is now sparkling again, but I've not yet put it back on and with our climate perhaps never will!

So, yes paint is definitely more practical.

The floor is plastic - the perceived problem is that small stones easily get trapped under the mat and scratch and score the paint on the plastic.

Thanks for the responses.

The lx50 2 stroke doesn't have rubber floor runners they are just plastic so I was going to make them, paint the floor silver then hand paint the runners and passenger foot board black

I've done loads of research in the past on floor boards.

I've heard lots of negatives about the floor mats and I'd rather not to get one because of them and they don't look as good in my opinion but I was wondering if I paint the floor will it scratch easily from normal use

Thanks

If the 'runners' are raised then the floor in between will be fine. If you really can't stand the present look, by all means paint in between the runners - then leave those alone.

Thanks, I planned to hand paint the runners with a thick paint or leave them alone.
What do you recommend

Leave them alone. Any paint you put on there will get rubbed off, and may wind up on the soles of your shoes causing much anguish when floors get marked...

Last fall I bought a black rubber floor mat for my blue '22 GTS300 but I never installed it, and have since decided not to.

I will be happy to donate it (for postage) to someone on MV with a GTS300 that may want one. I think I paid something like $80-$85 for it back in October.

If anyone is interested, I posted it in the Official MV Freecycle Thread

Don't try to paint it. I have seen numerous LX50s with painted interiors and they all looked very bad. The material is not for painting.

I'd post it in the 'For 'Sale' section, but it's not for sale, it's a freebie, and as such, don't think I can post it there. It's been laying around on my bedroom carpet for around nine months, and I'm tired of vacuuming around it.
Post it here, not in the For Sale section.
