Hi,

I am new to the forum, Hi everyone.

The hand / parking brake cable on my MP3 has snapped. The usual dealer I use doesn't want to do the work due to the amount of labour involved.

Does anybody know of any Piaggio / Independent dealers in the UK / Midlands area that could do this?

Thanks

Is the MP3 in question 10 years old or more?

If so, it is pretty common practice for the Piaggio dealer network to refuse service of any kind other than routine maintenance (oil, filters, tires, etc.)

Personally, I think that is a really sh!tty attitude to take but I can also understand their viewpoint as dealing with old rusty fasteners is a huge timewaster that doesn't put food on the table.

It is 2013 model.

I had a quote today for £1000 from a UK dealer. That was the part and 8 hours labour.

I then called an MP3 specialist in the Netherlands who quoted £215.

That's quite a difference so I will probably have a short holiday over there and get this sorted at the same time.

He really didn't want to do it then.

The quote was from this place.

https://www.euro-motor.nl/

Does anyone have any experience of them or can recommend anyone else?

I didn't realise you could replace just the inner. I thought it came with the outer and the spring / mounting bolts.

I replaced the complete cable on my Fuoco many years ago - it wasn't too bad a job as I remember. Just the usual 'start from the back' plastics removal, which can be done quite quickly once you're used to it.

a fuoco is better then a mp3 with a mp3 you need to start at the back and work your way to the front

I replaced my complete cable a few months ago. You need to remove enough plastic from the front to get the inner leg shield off. That is the worst part of the job. The new cable can be fed from the back of the park brake lever down the centre of the frame and down to the rear brake. My inner cable had totally seized up (rust and gunk I expect) and I presume the outer cable was not great either. My advice it to replace it with a new cable. Good luck

I had the same problem with mine (400ie 2009) and I did the work myself, the cable cost around GPB 50 (AUD 95), what you need to know is that you need to take everything off - the seat, the fairings it will be a fully naked scooter. It will take time. If you have the time and good with you hands (and if you have a friend who is mechanic) then spend the day having fun. Otherwise, it would be nice to have that trip!!!! Good luck.
