I feel almost guilty, perfect riding weather this week in the mid to hi 70s and I've been taking advantage. I feel bad for my ppl in Athens, so hot that they had to close the Acropolis and not cooling down anytime soon How are you getting by and what tricks do you use? How hot is TOO hot for you to ride?

We're boiling here too. We're constantly close to 40°C since Wednesday. Friday & Saturday we hit 42°C. My employer had us work from 09:00 - 11:00 Wednesday, Thursday and we got the day off for Friday. This week hours changed from 08:00 - 16:00 and we will see how things will develop midweek. No riding for any reason

Gorgeous day yesterday, hot w/ light cloud cover to help keep things tolerable. I went down to the local Sunday Farmers' Market where they have great produce and lots of other stuff at interesting prices.
![]() I liked these ppl w/ fresh caught local fish apparently caught by trolls.
![]() Booze on offer here too. And I like those signs in the back of the fish shop!

Was already 80 degrees at 5:30 this morning. 103 now in the shade. It's sitting at the lights that's the worst. Otherwise it feels like you have a giant hair blower on you. Not refreshing.

It's been like a steam room here. Temps are only in the 90's, but humidity through the roof, so you sweat but doesn't make you cooler, only wetter.
I'm still riding, but only errand running and being strategic about picking routes with minimal stopping and finding shade over the road if I do have to stop at a light. |

Cman 90 degrees + 80% humidity = 113 HIF. My daughter told me a bit ago it only got up to 88 today at home because of the shade from all the Canadian smoke. Factoring the humidity of 65% it only felt like 95. Glad I'm up in the mountains, high of 83, lows in the mid 60s.

Weather at the coast is stunning.
Not gonna post the 7 day. Gratuitous. But my shop isn't at the coast... It's inland - and it's boiling hot. Put reflective foil (radiant barrier) curtain in front of roll up and entry door. Slows the climb to 90° heat inside. Come home hot, sweaty, and dirty. Walk straight down the ocean. Strip. Plunge. Cocktail. Tomorrow - get up and do it all over again.

Saw report in Italy, Greece ans Spain, between 45 and 49 in certain areas, this is crazy… if you wonder what it is to ride with the heat gun blowing at your face know you know !!
Here in Belgium it is great for now, 25 is ideal |

Stuck at 40°C since 12:00. And I'm in Northern Greece. Imagine what's going on in the rest of Greece, plus fires in Athens and other areas…

I wear a evaporative cooling vest, in an arid climate it lasts between fuel stops.
https://www.mycoolingstore.com/cooling-vest.html?utm_content=ps+nonbrand&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7JK9z_KYgAMVbCGzAB3IZQ11EAAYAiAAEgL6MPD_BwE I have this one at the moment. https://www.mycoolingstore.com/hyperkewl-cooling-vest.html Want to get an evaporative version that you can add ice to from a drink vending machine. |

So sorry for everyone going through the heat.
We actually bought a portable air conditioner (Charlieman?) and used it for a couple hours one day. Being a mile from the ocean as the crow flies, we don't have any heat issues but for a few times a year. |

Another 90° day indoors at the shop (perhaps the portable is in my future Scott - thanks!).
Have had head down/been so disconnected I hadn't fully realized how bad it's been outside the US. Read up on it a bit today. Gracious. ![]() |

In Paris, France, it's 77°F (25°C) at 2pm at the moment. That's pretty low for the season.

While everyone else is cooking, we are drenched constantly over here in the northeast. It's strange to hear about the extended heat wave while at the same time experiencing a rainy season all over again in NYC. Not much riding for us lately.

years ago i noticed that if i wore just shorts and a tee shirt when riding on the highway when it was over 100 degrees out, it would feel like a blast furnace more and more the faster i went. So i google searched the phenomenon. Turned out there's a sort of reverse wind chill thing that happens. So it's better to have on a layer or so of riding gear when it's over 100 degrees out.

Yeah, you're basically putting yourself in a convection oven once the temp is above body temp.
You want some breeze so the evaporative cooling can work, but not so much it can't keep up. Physics gets weird around threshold like that. Check out Density Altitude and Wet Bulb Temperature for more interesting (i.e. scary) info on heat and humidity. I've been in ground stops in Houston a couple times because density altitude got too high for planes to take off safely. |
