What is the story about yellow booties. What makes that a sign of a bodge? Like I said earlier I am running this thing and trust the engine, so just going to put the 20/20 on.

trying to dial in a set up without knowing the condition of the other components-- is there an air leak, what's the timing at, what's the inlet timing, has the carb box and inlet been modified in any way-- can lead to misdiagnosing problems and chasing your tail on fixes.

you need a good foundation to work from or performance of other components will suffer.

for example if you ask somebody what they're running jetting wise on their pinasco 2 port 177 with a 20/20 and you copy it exactly there's a possibility of failure because your ignition timing is different, or it runs like crap because your inlet timing is totally different because it's not stock, or it doesn't come close because you have an air leak you don't know about.

Hey, I've read all the comments and I'm just going to try to summarize what others have said.

1. We need a full picture of your scoot, not individual parts. This will tell most of us immediately whether your bike has SEA origins. This is the very first place to start as if it is SEA then who knows what is wrong with it. If it isn't SEA, then we can presume that the gears are probably correct for the motor.

2. If the gears are correct, then it doesn't make sense, to me anyway, why you would have a problem in 3rd & 4th, but not 1st and 2nd. Is the problem related to RPMs rather than the gear you are in. If so, we can start to think of this as probably a carburetion issue. However, are you sure that you are not just experiencing the gearing of the scoot? 1st and 2nd are always going to rev faster and there will always be a bigger jump to 3rd and then to 4th.

3. I run the same setup on my VBB with a SIP Sport 2.0 and a 20/20. You DON"T need a 24/24 carb. Also, did you adjust your timing for the Pinasco kit?

Most importantly, in my mind, Vancouver has a lot of experienced vintage mechanics. Get some help from a local. If you need help finding someone, let me know.

Cheers,
Simon

Which one is the right one for my Pinasco 177? Looks like a silver exhaust manifold clamp vs a black one. Longer exhaust tip too on second one. Which one is right for me?

This exhaust has only one bracket compared to this one.

https://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/product/exhaust-piaggio_24102000?q=Exhaust

Is that a problem?
Depends. Does your current exhaust attachment bolt go right through the casting or into a blind hole? Once you have a look it'll be self-explanatory.

my old exhaust. Looks like the bracket goes further back an inch. Is it a drop in replacement if I go with this https://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/product/racing-exhaust-polini_20020800?q=Exhaust

There's the hole. And no drilled out on the otherside.

Is the Polini exhaust smaller in the box so it looks like the bracket is closer to the end of the box?

The bracket is closer to the end. Maybe to allow a longer pipe before the box? I don't know, but that's the one you want. Like all of these things though, it'll probably need some persuasion and knuckle blood.

It's just stuck. It'll come apart if you want it to hard enough. Like with a couple pairs of pliers and something to cushion/protect the brass.

And the main jet on both, is it screw or pull off? Got air corrector off by tying string and yanking it.

this is how I have at least a half dozen main jets whose size can't be read Laughing emoticon

i try to use pliers with a cloth in between, but sometimes they just get marked from the tools to get apart the tight ones

I know what you mean. String worked for the air corrector, maybe fishing line threaded through the main jet hole.
