Bodgespotting

although it's been thru 2nd ave scooters, so that makes the better than most, it's still a bodge.

I'd feel pretty confident with giving a home to just about anything that Eric has given a thorough once-over.

Agree with Greasy. A shiny bodge, but still a bodge. Run away.

Eric's top notch, no doubt. I'm sure the motor is on point, or as tight as it can be, but with being a bodge everything else is under a shadow of uncertainty.

It is stated that it needed a complete rebuild which was done in house a 2nd avenue. Not knocking the shop who did the work, they are well known. But then there is the rest of the scoot to consider other than the engine. Body panels welded together from several machines and then grounded down and covered up with bondo by the bucket full. Also as stated, the engine swingarm had to be modified to fit the body - not good. Road use would be sketchy. Upside is
it will make a nice display inside an Italian restaurant.

My opinion, I think greasy125 is right on. Attractive Vintage, but unreliable.

So, I am only a candidate for a brand new scooter made to look retro.

Experience: At the annual scooter rally here in Minneapolis, they have to have a recovery vehicle follow the large group rides to pick up all the vintage scoots that die at stops and will not restart.

But, I admire you good souls who want the classic vintage ride. For years in my youth, I had to drive old MG sport cars. They quit running or had something go wrong every third Thursday. I had to have form over function, wearing my slant hat waiving at all the girls. Hey, I would even ride with to top down in the Winter (Windows up) to look cool. But no more.

God bless the Brits, but, the MG was a challenge and unreliable. Didn't care, had to have one

Driving that MG sport car, you had to wear this eight panel Hanna Hat from Ireland. Excuse my vulgarity, in college, we called this " A catch me F---- me Hat" It is actually a version of the old News Boy Hat.

It was cool early this morning when I headed the thirty-five miles up to Deadwood for my almost daily, semi-ritualistic, 'Coffee and Scone' addiction, and forsake the motorcycle/scooter experience for the top-down Miata roadster experience....with the side windows up and heater on low most of the way.

I doubt if I could keep a proper British roadster running anyway (or a vintage scooter either) so we settled for something as close and affordable as we could to 'the real thing'...without it actually being it.

JBacklund,

That Mazda is gorgeous and bullet proof reliable. Oh my gosh, it is even red!
You got the plan, roof down, windows up and the heat on. You really need to go on google and look up Hannah Hats of Donegal Ireland. Even though you are already the coolest guy in town with that great roadster - the hat would round out "You the Man".

Nice car,

Bob Copeland

yes! vintage vespas are unreliable, stinky, gross and expensive! they'll leave you at the side of the road for no good reason, too! and they're expensive and a pain in the ass to work on!

they are the worst possible choice for transportation of any kind. nobody should buy them, ever! you've all been warned!

^^^ I must agree, it's even in my sig vvv

Their 'charm' is vastly overrated, don't fall for the hype!!! ... plus a real danger of addiction issues as well.

Please stick to the sensible and cleaner 4 stroke models that don't require constant complicated clutching & shifting. The irrational current demand for crude older 2 stroke 'vintage' models is pushing prices up to crazy new levels for unreliable vehicles you really can't trust! Livid emoticon

Someone figured out that the Datsun 1600 Roadster head fit on the MG. That's one of the fairly common "upgrades" that drive purists nuts. My dad had one of the 1950s MGs in Los Angeles, and I remember riding in it. He wasn't mechanically inclined, so that car didn't last long at our house.

This topic would definitely have gotten some interesting comments on Not So Modern.
