You got it. New old stock is industry speak for that... a 2023 sitting on a showroom floor in 2024, and sold in 2024, would be new old stock.

The MyRoad 700i I delivered a couple months ago was several years old new old stock. Went to a guy who was stepping up from an old Bet & Win 250. Terrible name, ugly bike, good quality though. Taiwan.

They make good motors. Nothing new there.

Is it too picky to want more than a good motor? Is wanting to pass on a bike called "substandard" (among harsher names) too snobbish of me? lol
Substandard is in the eyes of the beholder. A Harley looks great, a Kawasaki, that has a reputation for bad fit and finish, lasts longer.

There are many long lived Tao Taos out there. Even higher mileage Wolf Scooters.

Which isn't even the point. You can say a China built Kymco is substandard, I say based on what? I owned a Like 50 for a spell. The panels, layout and construction didn't seem "Substandard" to me. Plus a Hanway 300, that's a Royal Alloy 300 finished the Cannonball with a Chinese built Vespa engine. A Benelli TNT 135 finished in the Grom class too.

Keep in mind that Comments like "You can pick up a Chinese scooter cheap when it won't start the second time someone tries to use it" have abounded here.

Nope, sorry. If a Chinese built Kymco can cross America that's not substandard or "So what" to me. There were a lot of Superior brands that didn't make it.

Really decided to avoid the part of my message that asked you to put your money where your mouth is huh? Where'd all the confidence go? ROFL emoticon

Substandard is in the eye of the beholder, you're right. Clearly your standards are lower than average. Have fun with that.

I got a better idea. Why don't we take your survey to an Asian scooter forum? You pick.

As for my standards. When you have been riding as long as I have you would rather have a scooter that gets you there than a shiny bauble that won't.

I see you still love to insult people than see their point of view. Since you're so young I'll let it go.

I'm sure that Kymcos that originate from China are substandard but the Like lasted longer than many other scooters that weren't.
You have to be really carful with stuff from China. Fakes turn up in the most unexpected places. And of course they deny it.

I believe that a certain German manufacturer gets its smallest GS model made in India and Triumphs new 400's come from that area also.

I'll make a stab and suggest that the cost of labour and materials could have been a factor in that decision as if they were built in Europe you'd probably have to pin another £2000 to the price tag.

I'll continue to judge quality by the long-term durability and availability of parts support. Completing a Cannonball is an interesting test of durability, to be sure, but I think a lot of new equipment has the ability to get through its first 3000 miles with a minimum of coddling.

Show me, though, the 5- and 10-year-old machines that do it and I'll show you machines that are both durable AND well-supported. This is what is so impressive about the Italian, Japanese, and Taiwanese manufacturers (regardless of build location) that demonstrates quality to me.
