The UK doesn't have individual CoC's for each vehicle.

It's all down to how it's described on the V5 - the Keeper's registration Certificate. However, you could (can still?) add spacers to the front wheels and get the V5 altered to read tricycle (or quadricycle).
And you're right that it also depends when the OP got their B driving licence.
