Not much done today cause of day job. Horn was f'ked up by the previous owner. Painted over black with a brush. It was also opened up at some point of its life. Since we wanted it black, I dismantled it, cleaned up the rust, painted it matte black, cut two paper gaskets which will be combined with sealant and found some inox rivets to close it up...

I guess if you have a great bulge having a nice horn goes hand in hand!🤣 Nice contrast with the rivets. That scoot is going to look sharp when it's done.

Getting there! Since this is a PK Elestart / ETS crank, flywheel side needs a conversion bearing (6005 TN9/C3) and seal (B1SL). Once again, Piaggio gaskets are shrunken, tried two, same thing. I'm suspecting there was humidity involved while they cut them. Thankfully I had a SIP Premium set...

For the past two days I've been racking my brain. I can't, for the life of me, find the 12V PK flywheel I had stashed away for the build. A friend came to the rescue and gave me an almost new one, taken from a 9k Kms PK50S motor. He won't be needing it since he has other plans for that engine when the time comes...
Look at that beauty...

Finished the engine today and fired it up! Lot's needed to be done. First of, the bastard needles from the clutch arm bearing fell off (it's the old cage-less type). First time that happened to me, f@cking hell to get them in again. And then there's that freaking o-ring to replace. Made a CDI bracket, had copied an overpriced one, used 3mm aluminum sheet. Flywheel was painted to a color we wanted, stator rewired and carb was rebuilt. We are using the SHBC20L taken from the PK/ETS 125 which uses a different clamping style and has an internal o-ring to seal on the manifold (no more air leaks). Since there's no readily-made manifold for this carb and V50s cases, I modified a 19mm one by machining a ring that was pressed on and then welded. Finally, the hub and the Polini Original (new banana) were put on and started the engine on my stand...

I second the fan color, cool accent and nice contrast. I'm itching to see this scoot completed. I haven't seen a scoot with colored cases before.
Probably a dumb question but is that black legshield trim the rubber kind? Great job on the build. Love your engine test stand. |

Thanks Gents! Inspiration for the flywheel color came from the GTS Super Tech. Color is close to fluorescent yellow and it really looks good with grey. We're now thinking that maybe we should have painted the shock springs the same color...
Stand needs a few modifications for a smallframe engine but it worked fine for now... Here's the stand build... Getting there. First off, pics of the modified 19mm to 20mm manifold. Rear hub cover was painted black and installed. Rear shock assembled and on the frame. Finished the electrics / electronics inside the carb bay, engine's on, modified the airbox cause it was fouling the regulator and assembled the gas cap on the tank...

The only thing I don't like about this build is how shabby my builds look as compared.
I can't wait to see the video of this thing on the road.

Hoping to finish tomorrow. We're in the final stretch... Great detail work. The black parts look great with the gray especially the horn. That's a good looking scoot and you're not even done yet. I really like like this style of refurbishment and paint scheme over stock. Still vintage with a modern flair!

Impressive! As clean as it is the color choices will benefit use probably camouflage the two stroke soot. Your builds set the bar high and give everyone motivation.

Cheers Gents! Unfortunately not finished, cause as usual, last minute setbacks will arise. First off, I had forgotten that the PK speedo drive is different to the PX, so I had to exchange the cog in the hub. The SHBC20L needed a custom choke cable (easy). Brake and clutch levers will be replaced by normal ones, cause the dog leg levers don't allow too much travel for the clutch to fully disengage. The front brake cable needed to be shortened and I also made a custom nipple for the lever end. Aluminum backplate for the license plate and I put on the custom made individual stripes, cut by a friend...
Few pics and tomorrow, hopefully, will finish up...

Beautiful! The seat looks comfortable too. Great job. I like your decal 👍. I would have are hard time giving it to the owner. This color scheme has given me some ideas for my P build. Thanks!

Thanks Guys!!!
BajaRob: Seat is original, reupholstered, the only good thing the previous owner did. Although I liked it very much, the one I didn't want to give away to the owner, was the orange Special I did for my brother in law Birdsnest: You're doing fine!!! Loved the SS and the ET3 you're now working on... |
