When I bought my 2009 GTS 250, I immediately had the fuel pump replaced by the dealer under the recall that had recently been issued for a bad batch of pumps.

Since then, I've had over 145,000 trouble-free kilometers.

The other day I went to start the scoot and didn't hear the familiar hum of the fuel pump when I turned the ignition key, and sure enough, when I went to crank the engine, I got empty starter noise.

The battery is plenty strong and everything else seems fine.

A few days later I went to try again, and I heard the fuel pump kick in, and the scoot started right up.

Anyone else encounter something like this? I have to say, I don't mind clear-cut technical failures... they can be fixed. But intermittent failures strip me of my confidence in the scoot and can potentially strand me.

Should I just replace the fuel pump to restore my faith in the scoot?

145,000 km? Yeah, it doesn't owe you anything. Give your faithful steed a new fuel pump. And a nice wash and some new stickers couldn't hurt.

+1 on that.

as a matter of course, I'd check the fuel pump fuses and relay as well. belt and suspenders and all...

Just did a big service a month ago. But I have a nearly new donor scoot that I bought after it was totalled. Over the years I've been picking it clean. I'll see if the pump and associated bits are in good shape.
