Hello!

I tried to install a SIP box exhaust on my 150 "late" Super but the exhaust and the center stand spring claims the same space of existence.

It's still far away from the screw hole of the swingarm.

Actually do these guys at SIP install and test their stuff on real scooters in real life or just sit in front of the AutoCAD?

If I had a buck for every time I have wondered: Why someone didn't test fit or try to use a product before it was put into production or put on the market... Why they didn't have an actual physical example of the original product they were copying to check against.... Why they couldn't find one person who actually spoke English to proof the manual or instructions before it went to print.

Maybe explains why pages of warnings come with everything you buy today...

Recent example : A Casa Lambretta ( sorry) steering lock/pinch bolt unit where the threads on the bolt are not long enough so the nut bottoms out and strips the threads on the bolt before the head is tightened. Every one must do the same thing.

Interestingly, the SR3 I have on my P200 fit perfectly out of the box.

Every SIP Road version (OG, 2.0, XL, etc.) has been both a design and fitment disaster on VBB, Sprint, and LML cases pretty much every time, though.

Sometimes, it's the expansion cone blocking the center stand, as others have noted. Other times, it's the pipe hanging too low (probably trying to avoid aforementioned center stand interference). And sometimes, I think it's just poor build tolerances.

The Malossi Box I just picked up went onto my LML cases like it was born to be there, though, and the Polini box get similarly good installation marks.

At some point, people will quit buying SIP's boxes as better awareness of the alternatives gets out, I think.

I had the same problem on my AllState. I cut the tab from the centerstand and welded it back on more to the left so it missed the muffler, and moved the frame end of the spring over too.

I've used a narrower spring in the past where it's only the spring that's in the way.

You need a slightly longer bolt, and grind the end a bit pointy. Makes it much easier.

Put a cutting die onto the bolt before you sharpen it. Then you can just cut the theads back into shape after it's done.

And be careful because if the sip 2 cage that holds nut in place gives way it's a freaking nightmare to get the exhaust bolt out . So make sure you use new exhaust bolt and nut and grease it.

There's a bit of a trick with the bolt in that you line up the exhaust stub with pipe maybe inserted it by a few mm and lightly push in the exhaust frame bolt and pinch it onto nut first then rubber mallet the exhaust on to exhaust cylinder stub. They way you know the bolt is through and in the nut thread . Gives you far more ease for smooth install and never had issue with lining up on both polini box and road 2. Polini box I had to move the stand springs on a PX.

I am running two SIP 3.0 right now. One is on a 71 Vespa Sprint Veloce and the other one on a 1978 vespa P200E but I also tried it on my PX150 and fits just fine.

As far is lining up the hole from the exhaust bracket to the aluminum block of the engine chasis you just have to play around and move the exhaust around to make the 3.5" bolt line up, it requires a male and wiggle it around.

If you want I can go and take some pictures of my two SIP 3.0. If for some reason you get fed up and want something else I would be interested.

Seems like as good a place as any to drop this...I was just reinstalling the Road 3.0 on my P200 and the spring loop snapped right off.

It was only properly welded on one side.

We can and should demand better though. Or progress will never be made, just the same ill fitting shit over and over again!

Somewhat ironic, but the exhaust that came with my P200 motor was a Sito+.

And it's not that we've forgotten, just that we've come to expect more--that exhausts that have been modeled in simulation tools to solve complex engineering problems around performance will also manage to solve the simple stuff like manufacturing quality.

And I like my SR3. I'd like it a lot less if I hadn't been able to weld a new loop on, but it works well, even if mine was apparently the last one made on a Friday.

After working in a manufacturing environment for 12 years, it wouldn't be that hard to use a clean gutted motor as a jig for welding and final fit. People manufacturing these have no real process control or an understanding of what it is.

OH I remember....

Scoot Expo '99. All the scoot peeps were rolling thru Pasadena. I'm turning a corner on the way to Soul Night, The newly installed legendary (low hanging!!!) Sito Plus catches a high spot on the asphalt, and we go down...hard. Full circle spinning wipe out. Drag scoot up onto the parkway, cowl scraped up, rear tire flat; the mightly SitoPlus has been bent backwards into the tire about 2" or So. The kind people who lived right there let me borrow a hammer, so I could smash and dent that damn pipe back in enough to swap the spare tire on while a bunch of rando scooter crew stood around and watched all suited up dressed to the TOP. BingBangBoom, SitoPlus smashed up even more, tire swapped out. We are back in business. Cant miss Soul Night after all!! Good times.

I did love that popcorn PoP PoP PoPPoP PoP sound though...

I run a Sito+ on the frisky LML in my Super and I do love it, just a bit louder than stock and seems to add a few beans. But then I like a LOT of things from the 20th century better than their smarter century 21 replacements. Scooters and tools come to mind. And parts for different things you could fix usually fit & worked OK.
