I have done a search but can't quit find the answer. Apologize if this topic has been exhausted...

I've noticed a replacement stock exhaust, or even a replacement aftermarket exhaust for my Vespa is pricey. But a slip on exhaust for a motorcycle or scooter is much cheaper.

What is the downside of cutting the pipe at the current stock exhaust and finding one that will slip on to the remaining pipe? I'm assuming I'd potentially have to adjust the carb, and figure out how to secure it properly. Would there be anything else someone who is more experienced with mechanics would be concerned about?

I have a GT and about a month ago it had a problem that could have potentially totaled it if I couldn't fix the problem. When I told everyone here that I might be parting it out the first to respond wanted the muffler. Apparently they are hard to come by, as you are finding out. Try to buy a tail light.

To answer your question I don't see a problem with mounting a generic motorcycle muffler. Just make sure the pipe diameter is the same. You will have to fabricate mounting brackets but that shouldn't be too hard. Use flexible exhaust pipe from the head pipe to the muffler.
