2022 Vespa GTS 300 (Purchased last August)

So I hadn't riden in a couple of months due to health issues. Then last week I went for about an hour ride and my front brake was really soft, like hitting my knuckles and still not getting 100% stopping power from just the front brake. Called the dealer and they said it sounded like I needed the brakes bled, set up an appointment for this morning. (AZ it was over 100 degrees when I left and it was going to be an hour ride to get there)

As soon as I started out, I noticed the front brake felt fine. I was questioning myself, but I live right by the highway so it was only a block to feel it before jumping in with the commuters, made it 30 min out, about halfway to the dealer (next town over) and pulled into a parking lot to test them out. Everything seems fine now.

I had my hubby feel the brakes last week and he agreed they were soft so I know I'm not just crazy and imagined it...

So I turned around and came home instead of driving another 30+min in 100+ degree heat for them to either say "Yeah nothings wrong" or charge me $200 to bleed the brakes if they don't need it and the soft brake was just a fluke. I called and canceled the appointment, but will take it in if it has issues again.

My main question is, has anyone else had this happen? Was it just because it sat and needed a good ride / short rest to get the fluid moving again?

Please check Date of Manufacturing: QR-Code on inside under helmet compartment (not sure if US-Customers get also a CoC-Document, if yes: shows also DOM)

Double check VIN with http://recall.piaggiogroup.com/default.aspx?BRAND=&LANG=EN
Note: Even if the Piaggio database does not show a recall for your VIN, that does not mean there is no recall. Only Piaggio or a dealer can confirm/exclude a recall based on the VIN.

There was a recall because of soft brakes (among other things after prolonged standing time, disappearing after pumping) for GTS from the production period 2020/2021.

did the brakes in that recall go soft and then firm again or just go soft? I thought just go soft but really don't know.

If I remember correctly, a test within the recall was
- to fix the brake pulled overnight (with a cable tie, Velcro or similar), and/or
- repeatedly pumping the brake lever(s).

Calling your dealer to follow up on the possible recall sound like a good idea. If it's not on the recall list, take some short test rides and put the breaks through a workout by doing panic stop drills. Although, you may want to wait for the temps to drop next week. Razz emoticon
