Rode my bike this morning. Made it to my destination fine. Went to leave and it would not start. AAA came to jump it but no luck. Tested and said it was probably the alternator. So here are my questions.

Where is the most reputable place to buy an Alternator?

How hard it is to install with some basic knowledge of engines?

Are there any video's of someone doing it?

Thanks

who tested it and determined it was a bad alternator?

the charging system is fairly straight forward: battery, stator, flywheel and voltage regulator.

after you have determined the battery to be in good condition, the voltage regulator is the most likely culprit, followed by the stator and then the flywheel.

all of those can be tested and replaced by somebody with a basic set of tools that has a fundamental understanding of mechanical things. only the flywheel requires a special puller.

to note: the voltage regulator is shared among the 250/300 lines, but the stator has different break downs for models and years, and must match the water pump/stator cover as well as the flywheel.

I get my parts from Scooter Parts Co
good parts, good prices, fast shipping.

Thank you. I will contact the local dealer tomorrow and see if it pays to attempt it myself. Triple A tested the Alternator.

I would strongly suggest you get a second diagnosis from the dealer or from an independent mechanic who is familiar with vespas.

I agree, as technically there is no alternator...

If a jump-start doesn't start the engine, then it's not the alternator (aka stator) at fault!

First principles:
Does the code LED flash and then stay OFF when you first switch on?
Does the starter turn the engine over?
Does the fuel pump 'whirr' for two seconds when you first switch on?

If yes to all those then report back.
