This is more of a theory idea for the hive mind...

Do you think it would be possible to install a GY6 engine into an 125 auto Stella frame?

I know that the auto stellas engine is tall where the GY6 is long.

Just a curiosity as i've come across some auto stellas but didn't want to get into them due to lack of availabe parts and have wondered if there were other engine options

Anything is possible if you have enough skill, time and money. I'd start by looking at the short lived stellamatic and see what the mounting set up is for the engine. gy6 mounts from the top. I don't know what the guts of a Stella frame look like. There's a guy at Mayhem who rides a Piaggio Leader engine mounted in an old Lambretta. Anything is possible. I'd love to see some pictures when you're done.

Indeed, enough money and time, it can happen. But for all the bother, I would look at a better engine than an everyday GY6.

Its more of a curiosity, I keep reading about how there are no parts for them so as they break (which they will) how do you fix em'. Seems like a pity that such a nice looking bike will just become a paperweight.

So I got to wondering if there could be a replacement engine and as the GY6 seem to be plentiful and cheap....

Yes, cheap - but not particularly reliable or well made. You might also consider a 125 PGO engine as a possible donor. The first question, though, is just how much modification to the frame is needed for mounting the donor engine. This is, after all, a lot of trouble to end up with a retro looking body and a CVT transmission. There are quite a few models around which already fit that description.

It's gonna take a lot of chopping as the 4T Stella motor is boxy and right hand biased and a GY6 is long and narrow and left hand biased. Seeing as Stella 4Ts are discontinued and parts are unobtainium, I'd say go for it and chop away. Otherwise it's just going to be a boat anchor!

depending on how much your time is worth, and whether you really like doing this sort of thing... maybe an actual PX is worth spending a little more up front?

The Stella auto and the 4T shifty are orphans - short productions runs and no parts per say. If you are an engineer or an engineering student, this project might make sense to me. Other than that, it would be a time and money pit.

SIP will be reproducing parts for the 4T LML engines, shifty and autos. They bought all the necessary tooling and molds in India…
