Looking over my '06 GTS today the front fender has major cracks. 17+ yo plastics I would assume, or my horribly potholed streets en route to work.

At this point its not rideable. From the Robot vid I'm buying some specialty tooling, removing the entire front assembly, and reassembling.

While I'm at it might as well replace the bearings / races that are 14k miles, as well as the mechanical speedo cable that I tried and failed to replace 5000 miles ago because the OEM fender made it difficult.

Plus I guess its time I buy a lift - way overdue

In the meantime, the '18 GTS will get me to/from the place of employment to pay for all the things. I've been thinking of paring down the fleet of late since I can only ride 1 bike at a time, this is why that's a bad idea....

The bearings and races are eminently doable without much fancy gear. Not NO fancy equipment - not MUCH fancy equipment.

In my opinion a well-populated set of bearing pressing discs is essential, a race remover is nice, the special spanner wrench for the top nuts is completely unnecessary, and stuff like threaded rod, nuts to squeeze the new parts into place, and a motivational propane torch is obvious (and cheap).

Motorcycle lift? I don't think this is the job to justify that. Too much fiddling to be done on top of the scooter. I sit on an old plastic milk crate, the way God intended.

This isn't a Vespa thread but it is instructive.
