Anyone ever cut into there coil to be able to solder on a new sparkplug lead? Mine's frayed and will order a new one if you can't.

Hey anyone in Canada got a 6volt ignition coil?

Frayed at signal from stator?

HT lead fine?

Which lead are you worried about? The primary connection repair from stator looks like it should work... the secondary HT sparkplug lead looks normal, I doubt it needs internal fixing or that this would be a good plan. The coil looks tired, but who cares if it works. Test it w/ a 6V power supply.

replace the coil with one like this where the plug wire is not molded in.

These Piaggio coils are hands down the best ever. I use this coil on three different 6volt bikes (GS, SS, V90) with great starting and superb reliability.

Just installed that coil. Maybe a bit more power since the wires aren't frayed and the original HT lead worked.

This is the type of repair i would do if i was in the middle of nowhere and riding the bike was the only way to get home. thereafter, replace with a new, quality, HT coil.

Yeah, I guess the soldering iron that you always keep in your glove box you could plug into the USB socket you have cleverly adapted to 6 volt. That's what I always do.

I use to have a butane soldering iron in my toolkit. I always have extra plug lead wire and electrical tape in the kit as well. I don't carry the iron with me any more, but could likely rig something like this on the roadside.

That's quite amazing, I must say.

I have one of those torch lighters I use for a quick and dirty soldering job. Use it for shrink tubing also.
