Modern Vespa

Anyone else kick out the passenger pegs on their GTS to change up their riding position on long rides? I did two 8 hour days on I5 this week and both times around hour 6 I end up doing this so I can "reset" my usual position by shifting for a little while.

Haven't done this on a scooter (none of mine ever had passenger pegs). But I've done this a lot on motorcycles over the years. It makes a long day of riding a lot easier if you can move your feet around a bit.

I'll take "titles that should have been re-thought" for 500, Trebek.

Since that is such an unnatural locution I suspect a fair amount of thought has already gone into the title.

I said what I said.

I've done it on my Moto Guzzi. My Vespa has crash bars that are very convenient for resting your feet on. I also ride cross-legged to stretch out my back.

I've been considering some bars, didn't even think about that advantage. I tend to sit too wide-legged already, though. I find it interesting to set my throttle lock (Kaoko - highly recommend) and tried bringing my knees specifically in behind the legshield and watch myself gain 2-3 miles on the speedo.

You know you're welcome to start your own thread on the subject you think is this subject. But probably somewhere other than ModernVespa.

It helps keep you from getting stiff and sore but I only do the non-typical positions on long rides.

After much back and forth, hemming and hawing, and a little ADHD-influenced distraction with the cat, I've come back and opted not to do so. I'll leave that to someone more hands-on in the subject matter.

The extended passenger pegs work well for this too.

I sometimes slide back on the passenger hump. I can straighten my legs and wiggle my feet. It requires long arms though.

This is where the X9 and its successors did so well, you could put your feet fully forward while still on the floorboards.

Had a BMW R100RS (airhead flat twin).

Needed to do that in the summer -- rider's toes were under the carbs, which were each mounted just behind their respective cylinder's head. Nice in cool weather, almost intolerable when it was hot.

Incidentally, googling something in a private tab only hides it from the aforementioned wife. Google, and any other organization, knows exactly what I'd be up to. And frankly so would said wife. She knows things, somehow...

And that's why I laughed so hard when she googled "muffin tops".
