No idea, but the switch on the right doesnt look like its factory fitted.

Does the bodywork come off these? If you can get access to the wiring loom you might be able to work out whats going on.

The cover with your additional ignition switch comes off easily too.
If you open the glove box there is a screw on the bottom of the cover.
Looks like someone lost the keys and fitted an extra ignition rather than drilling the old one out? Have you got keys for both?

You push in the original ignition switch, it's not in the lock position so it should pop open.

If you haven't done so already, I would check the underside before you spend anything on it.
On a ET2 the underside is part of the structure and you won't get an MOT if it isn't solid.

The plot thickens !!.....have established that the wires going to the original ignition switch, have been diverted to that second one, as was suggested.....now, how the hell do I get one of those barrels out ??.....But first things first, today I'm having a good look at the frame, as suggested, I did have a poke around before buying it, and there is some rust on the under panel.....hopefully the main frame is still solid......fingers crossed !!

I would start with removing the cable ties for the second barrel and then seeing where the wires have been cut/joined.

Well, it looks like it might be game over.....before I've even started !!....I didn't realise that it wasn't a frame as I know it, but the whole structure IS the frame......oh well I didn't pay much for it, so might get some money back by breaking it......a shame really as I was looking forwards to refurbishing the old girl........

It might be worth getting a wire brush on it see what you are dealing with.
In the pic the front area doesn't look great but the back where the engine mounts is is still in tact.

Here is an example of a typical badly rusty one in this thread

Rusty chassis repair on 5 year old LX125 Sport

I don't know what point it becomes an MOT fail, I would think the one above would be there for sure as there is some pretty bad corrosion on the engine mounts and a chunk of floor missing.

Hopefully someone with some experience of rust and MOT's can give you an educated opinion on it.
