I had cataract surgery on my right eye 3 days ago and the left eye will be done next month.

The difference is absolutely amazing, even after just 1 eye was done. Colors are fantastic. Clarity and detail is unbelievable.

I have worn tri-focals for about 40 years and always felt I had good vision. Several months ago, I went to my eye doctor to see if my prescription could be upgraded because I was experiencing slight blurring on distance. I was told that no prescription would improve because I was looking through a dirty windshield. It was cataract time.

I see better without my glasses. I can read signs on the highway and read the details on my dashboard. Looking forward to next month's surgery on the left eye.

One of the best decisions I have ever made.

I had both of my eyes done at the same time three years ago. The difference was immediate and amazing. I was expecting clearer vision, but the colors! All the colors were more intense, more saturated, and brighter.

I didn't think of having the procedure as being a decision, but I guess it was.

Best thing I ever did about 2 years ago. I had multifocal lenses put in each eye. I feel like Amazon delivered me 2 brand new eyeballs.

No more expensive glasses all over the place and I can buy regular sunglasses.

For this alone, it's really worth it. Had both mine done. Easy Peasy. No pain at all.

Eye guy notified me I had cataracts; to small to worry about. It woulda been better if he'd kept that news to himself.

I have the tiniest seed of one beginning. I might be interested in lens replacement when the time comes. I have a friend who had his corrective lenses removed because he hated the way they messed with his vision. It will be many years before I have to decide and I hope the technology will improve enough to negate the issues he described.

Same for me. Just watching and waiting at this point. Someday they'll be big enough to justify correction, but not yet.

I had each of mine done separately several years ago. Best thing ever. The surgery took exactly the same time as Deep Purple Live in Japan with Child in Time - 20 minutes.

I'm on the way, not sure if I'm ready, but I've got to say it's hard to dread it.. Slick procedure, vastly improved vision and no glasses!

If you are on the fence, I highly recommend it. I wish I had the procedure sooner and was able to enjoy the benefits much earlier.

It really was life changing for me. YMMV.

I am told that I have exceptionally large eyeballs but average size eye sockets so my eyes are distorted causing a great amount of astigmatism. I wore thick glasses since I was in grade school. Later hard contacts, which I hated but allowed me to see well.

Having my lenses replaced was life changing. I had to pay $1400 out of pocket to get the lenses that corrected my astigmatism but I didn't hesitate for a minute. It was a bargain.

Now I only have to wear glasses for reading or other close work. They told me that would happen. Someone told me that there are new lenses that can correct for that too.

I asked why people don't replace their lenses just to correct vision. It's expensive but some people would do it. They told me that the procedure makes you susceptible to retinal detachment for reasons not fully understood.

I have friends who (whom?) had Lasix and had one eye done for reading and the other for distance. Weird, I thought, till my eye guy told me I had one eye good for reading, the other good for distance. Go figure!

I had mine done mono vision can read great no readers thank God. Still use glasses to drive .

This was last August. I didn't think I'd have pulled the pin already. Had the worst replaced today. Not a bad procedure, though fiddling with one's eye is a bit unnerving.

Playing with comparing eyes was a treat...what appeared to be light yellow wall coverings was actually slightly off-white. Big bump in brightness. Kind of a weird day, sitting around with my eye cover that feels like the bottom of a plastic soda bottle. The only concerning thing at the moment is the loss of near vision... though I was warned... My next move is to pick up a pair of cheaters to get me by until things settle in.

Since having the cataract operations done several years ago my distance vision is almost perfect. My one eye sees stars as dots while the other sees tiny splashes.

One continuing side effect is sensitivity to bright lights. When driving at night I find modern car headlights quite blinding. Sydney is very hilly, and one gets dipped beams in one's eyes as cars come over hills and speed humps, so I keep a pair of yellow anti-glare glasses in the car for night driving.

Yeah! My back deck star/moongazing has suffered of late. Now it's just me and the clouds.

Colors are richer and brighter. Oncoming headlights no longer fog my vision. Even though my right eye couldn't be fully corrected, I can see quite adequately without glasses if I need to. The new bionic lenses are even blue-blocking!

Prior to the procedure, my vision was 20/200 in my left eye and 20/200 in my left eye. It's now 20/20 and 20/70.

I have needed "reading glasses" for years anyway, so that hasn't been an issue.

Checking back in here...I was going to put this in the "pissing me off" thread, but really, its minor.

Every morning for a week now I've reached for my glasses when I sit up in bed. Not there. Every time I go to put my helmet on I reach to take my glasses off. Not there. I'll get it right eventually.

Starting to taper my eye drops, and now starting prep for my other eye. Keeping me busy. Much less anxious about the surgery now, in fact, I'm ready any time they are.....

If you're really persnickety about your vision, or if your vision has never been able to be corrected to 20/20 or better, you might look into light adjustable cataract lenses. A week or so after surgery, the doctor can fine tune your correction using UV light, in two sessions a couple of weeks apart. Then they get locked down. Like regular cataract surgery, it's no big deal.
The things are darn expensive, and Medicare won't pay the extra cost. But if you have the dough, you might talk to your doctor before you decide.

And food tastes better, too.
